Yes Ummm, and it was OK when I visited the country in 1999. In fact it was wonderful, and I was looking forward to making a return trip.

But the chap that I saw on the BBC, was being interviewed 2 days after 38 people were murdered, 30 of them Brits, and a further total of 39 were injured. And he was decidedly upset that he was going too be repatriated !

And since when was a beach crawling armed Police and Soldiers a suitable place for a relaxing holiday ?

We had the same after the attacks in Sharm and again after the plane was shot down. I understand that there are still tourists going to Sharm, although not many are Brits ( I hope )

Many people like to holiday in out of the way places, package deals to Benidorm are not everyone's cup of tea. The guy interviewed after Sousse wasn't an idiot, it was probably the safest time to be there. Nothing has happened since - except the locals who depended on the tourist industry are in a sorry state.

Mikey - I was in Egypt when the bombs went off (not Sharm) and knew nothing about it until I got back to my hotel room and looked at the messages on my phone.

The Gambia is / was quite a good holiday destination ( apparently ) [they say - those who have been there]

v good bird watching for those who like flying things in bright colours


Bit like Egypt - just a few have set out to wreck a major source of the countrys income impoverishing millions overnight in the tourist industry- and turning around and saying "Look everyone arent we clever ?"

good for a fly-and-flop holiday
you flop on the beach under a parasol and read a book or sunbathe
( rather than hear gunfire, run and lock your self in a lavvy that works and flop in the pan your find there)

sp1814, was the last half of that list places you would or wouldn't go? I've been to them all except Cleethorpes and Magalluf, and they all had interesting things to see.

Gambia was interesting too, though I went there well before either sex tourism or political instability. You could go on Roots tours in those days.
