and he got sacked himself ....

shades of Nixon's attorney general .....
Question Author
Peter....Cameron resigned.
Dave never came across as being bright when he was PM and nothing that's come out since has changed that.
//Newsnight understands the prime minister personally tried to persuade Mr Dacre to "cut him some slack" in a private meeting in his No 10 Downing Street flat on 2 February, the day European Council President Donald Tusk unveiled details of the deal negotiated by Mr Cameron for the UK.
Mr Dacre told Mr Cameron he would not temper his editorial line on Brexit because he had been a committed Eurosceptic for more than 25 years and believed his readers were too.
In early March, Mr Dacre was told by a Westminster source that the prime minister had tried to persuade Lord Rothermere, a strong supporter of the UK remaining in the EU, to sack him.
The Daily Mail editor was said to be "incandescent" and his resolve to campaign for Brexit "stiffened".//

The BBC reports it as fact,..........so it must be true. (^_*)
Question Author
Dougie....I fail to see where this ire against Dave is coming from.

He succeeded to winning the Tories an Election in 2010, after the three previous Tory Leaders failed miserably to do so. He then won again in 2015, convincingly.

He led the Remain campaign, as indeed he should have done, given that the Tory Party's policy at the time was pro-EU ( as every other main Party was as well.

The Ref. went against him, narrowly. Perhaps if he had more tacit support from other Tories, like Boris and Mrs May, there could have been a narrow victory for Remain.
Question Author
Togo....I doubt very much that this story is untrue.
Doesn't surprise me, the treacherous remainiacs would stoop to anything to win the referendum.
Question Author
TTT....that is just daft, and you know it. If you are looking for treachery, look no further than Boris.
Nor do I Mikey, I believe it is just the sort of tactic that Cameron was capable of. That is why "we" are glad to see the back of him and his cronies. He would have sold us down the river just as Blair sold your party down the river.
Trevor Kavanagh seemed rather sceptical of the idea.
If it is true, it is a damn shame he failed, although it doesn't sound very "Cameron" to me. he was a gambler by nature ("taking a punt, that pumps me up" and all that jazz), and it seems unlikely that he'd have tried to "cheat".
It is high time Lord Rothermere moved his editor on ...

Gromit, if the libel action succeeds to the tune of that sum, it won't just be Dacre that may go to the wall!

-- answer removed --
If true that is disgraceful behaviour from a Prime Minister.
Whilst I do not like Dacre's editorial stance, disagreeing with the PM is no grounds for his sacking.
I would much rather he was replaced because of the poor standard of the DM journalism under his editorship.
If Mrs Trump succeeds in her £105million libel, then I imagine he will be pensioned off.
The timing of my post has changed! I replied after Gromit's last one yet now shows over an hour later...
There may have been a little judicious "editing" taking place Vortex. (^_*)
I know who I believe. The Daily Mail is much nearer to the people & voters of this country than any Tory or Etonite.
Question Author
Ron....don't most Tories or Etonites read the DM anyway ?
mikey, I like The Daily Mail, does that mean that I automatically become a Tory or Etonite ?
Question Author
No, of course not Ron.....but if you were a Tory or a Etonite, you would probably read the DM....that is if you found the Telegraph a bit too difficult !
