Reasoned Approach To Immigration?

I am for Trump. But for reasons which do not necessarily include liking, or even (in some cases) trusting him.

These are comments by a man I do trust and respect totally in his support for the US Constitution and the protection of its people. He will obviously fail the PC tests for decency for exactly those reasons.

I have no real interest in politics but Trey Gowdy is surely a potential future president.

I saw him first in a true crime type programme. There are many clips of him in action on YouTube. He is intelligent, thinks quickly and seems fearless.

I don't know if he is on the same party as Trump but I suspect that he could tie Trump in knots. It would be great viewing.

My gods have indicated that it is bed time - a Meow is the command. Failure to obey results in many more Meows repeated in quick succession. :-)

Rather than an immediate ban on those with visas surely he should be saying no new visas?!!

That would mean that the ones with visas can come in and there is no question of the visa holders being denied their (temporary) status as US citizens.

You can't deny US citizens entry if they are not citizens, i.e. No visa not a citizen.

vetuste - The notion of respecting totally a leader of a country for his devotion to it, and the protection of its people, could equally be applied to Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Atila The Hun - the list goes on.

No-one would quarrel with the concept of protecting a nation - but the way the leader goes about it is an entirely different subject.

He has now come out with something which I wish others took as an example to follow: He asked an interviewer, in effect, whether he thought the USA is morally (perhaps otherwise too) superior to other countries (in this case Russia). If only UK leaders, politicians and media accepted that the UK is not what they continually maintain it is (in most ways, at least where it matters, superior to the rest).

Would I think that the U.S. is morally superior to other nations, including Russia? Possibly.

Would I think that it's leader is morally superior to the leaders of other nations, including Russia? With the exception of Russia and North Korea, definitely not.

Tashfeen Malik, the San Bernardino killer was born in Pakistan, and emigrated to American from Saudi Arabia. Neither country is on the travel ban which is supposed to be to prevent terrorism.

You haven't read the order, Gromit. It says that the list (Obama's list of current rather than historic jihad hot spots and one endorsed by Congress - presumably why it was chosen) may be extended.

I further suppose that you support the popular contention by CNN etc. that NO terror attacks in the US have been committed by immigrants from the listed nations. Do you?

Just to clarify: I find Trump at best a huge embarrassment but when he, as president of the country, implied that the USA is (certainly ?) not beyond criticism, I admit I was reminded of a saying in another language which roughly translates as "An idiot sometimes slips into speaking wisely" (i.e. by pure accident).

Andy, clearly you and I disagree: The remark I refer to was his accidental suggestion of personal wisdom (or understanding the truth) - a fragment but one nonetheless. I am of the belief that he did not fully understand the implication of what he was saying, any more so than at any time he opens his mouth - although he is clearly very adept at advertising himself, effectively too. One reporter described the moment as "jaw-dropping", presumably because such unorthodox "honesty" was unexpected for its utterly contrary nature in terms of the de rigueur stance adopted by leaders, politicians, media, etc. in the USA for at least some generations. As I previously said, I wish other parties would also stumble into that, one example might be "The UK is not the world leader we have been claiming it is - any so many ways".
