Local Voting Figures Shed New Light On Eu Referendum
Answers
Statistical correlations need to be taken in context anyway but certainly it seems that there is a clear pattern. What's important is to understand why that pattern exists -- and it certainly isn't as simple or as insulting as "you had to be thick to want to Leave the EU". The reverse insults bothers me just as much, ie that the more educated are instead as "out of...

Some quotes from the above link ::::
"The data confirms previous indications that local results were strongly associated with the educational attainment of voters - populations with lower qualifications were significantly more likely to vote Leave"
"The age of voters was also important, with older electorates more likely to choose Leave"
"There was a broad pattern in several urban areas of deprived, predominantly white, housing estates towards the urban periphery voting Leave, while inner cities with high numbers of ethnic minorities and/or students voted Remain"
So, no great surprised there then !

I don't think that the link actually says that Gromit. What is does say is this ::::
"This powerful link to educational attainment could stem from the lower qualified tending to feel less confident about their prospects and ability to compete for work in a competitive globalised economy with high levels of migration"
"This powerful link to educational attainment could stem from the lower qualified tending to feel less confident about their prospects and ability to compete for work in a competitive globalised economy with high levels of migration"
It goes on to say ::::
"Of course this assessment does not imply that Leave voters were almost all poorly educated and old, and Remain voters well educated and young. The Leave side obviously attracted support from many middle class professionals, graduates and younger people. Otherwise it couldn't have won.
While there was undoubtedly a lot of voting which cut across these criteria, the point of this analysis is to explore how different social groups most probably voted - and it is clear that education, age and ethnicity were crucial influences"

So basically then, people who voted to Leave were either old, stupid or both. Bright young things all voted to Remain.
Just a quick point of clarification. As far as I know, when I cast my vote, nobody asked how old I was, nobody asked what subject I had a degree in and nobody recorded what colour my skin was or what my ethnicity was. Furthermore, none of these features are recorded against my name on the electoral register.
So, as with the MPs who are sure which way their constituents voted, a similar question needs asking: how was this “localised breakdown”, which the BBC has suddenly managed to lay its hands on, compiled. Or is it simply the results of a “survey”?

The liberal elite media once again trying to insinuate the thick old gits voted out. It totally missed the fact my kids and my nephews (with degrees, one with two and one a Nuclear physicist) managed to vote leave with a passion. I must tell them they are thick now.
Quite how they 'got this data' is a big question, personally i suspect it is made up.

NJ...if you read all the details in the link, it makes it quite clear that not every white, uneducated, working class person voted to leave, or that every highly educated middle class person voted to remain. But the tendency was there.
It also makes it clear that lots of educated, middle-class people must have voted to leave, otherwise the leave campaign would not have won.
You have mentioned quite a few times, that you know very few, if any remainers, which of course may very well be true within you immediate social group.
But I, in contrast, meet many Leavers, perhaps because I move in mainly working class circles, and the majority of those people, when asked, give their reasons for voting to leave, because of all the "foreigners in Britain"

From the link
''A statistical analysis of the data obtained for over a thousand individual local government wards confirms how the strength of the local Leave vote was strongly associated with lower educational qualifications.''
No one was asked what their educational qualifications were it is based on the % with degrees or not in each ward or area.
But basically 'Yes' having a lower education level means you are were likely to vote 'Leave'
