This is surprising, given Aldi's few store against the Co-ops so many !

I find I buy more than I would do in store.

Part of Aldi and Lidls secret has been to strip back the non-essentials and concentrate on the core business, and hey have succeeded brilliantly in that.

But remember what those shops used to be like 20 years ago ?
Very few recognisable brands and a bit of a mess inside as well.

But look at the now ! Bright, new modern stores.

Aldi have a huge programme of new store openings. So they are going to sell more. It is neither surprising or genius.
Investment in any business (if done correctly) will reap rewards.

On a personal note, I far prefer Aldi to any of the big 4

Groit...I seem to recall that when Tesco expanded a few years ago, they fell on their behinds....opening too many stores, too quickly and too close to existing stores. They quickly ended up in competition to themselves.

Lets hope the Germans don't make that mistake.

Aldi are superb. Packet of cheese and onion sandwiches on brown malted brown bread, 89p. Exceedingly good.

Went to a large one yesterday newly built on the site that was Booths. Huge store, great range.

Wine is excellent value, 13% chardonnay £3.95

Snooky....I bought a Pinotage in Lidl at the weekend, that was 14.5% and less than 4 quid !

And very tasty it is as well.

Going to stick with Waitrose, much nicer people and a free coffee and Newspaper to entertain me on the way 'round.

I do Lidl as well, mainly because their dark rum is 40%. All the other stores seem to be 37.5%. I know Lambs and Cpt Morgan is 40% but a lot dearer.

Morrisons won planning permission from Aldi, & Lidl for a new store where I live, 2 years ago.
After 6 months of making the site ready for building, they pulled out, after they published their losses.

Sorry, but the saying "you get what you pay for" is way overdone...the idea that you will always get better quality if you pay more has been disproved time and time again...you only have to look at Which? tests (both food and non-food) to see that paying less very often gets better quality.

True - well known brands often fail in blind taste tests.
