Yes, it happens all the time when parties parachute in candidates who are not local.
Mr Nuttal, the Hillsborough survivor, comes from Bootle apparently. The other parties have a local standing.
There was an opinion poll that had Nuttall well in front, but it turns out to have been bogus.
I haven't been able to find any reputable soundings. I certainly would not set much store by this rather grubby article. If Snell said that he's an idiot: he should concentrate on highlighting Nuttall's dubious ideas. Trouble is, and we all know it, Stoke on Trent Central sadly is prime UKIP (and "worse") territory. If their party leader cannot win here, with Labour in the state it's in they probably cannot win anywhere.
Local knowledge is indispensible in a by-election...

Last year:

// Nigel Farage and UKIP's chances of winning the Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election, suffered an embarrassing blow today after the party had failed to spell the name of the constituency correctly. //

They didn't win.
> If their party leader cannot win here, with Labour in the state it's in they probably cannot win anywhere.

Clacton?
Snell said what he thought; good on him.

Whether or not that will get him anywhere is another matter.

Usual scoffing at ukip on here i see
YMB, I'm surprised the PWW (pseudo-Welsh Windbag) hasn't weighed in already.
Arguably by 'Sod off to where you came from' is stealing a UKIP line.
(Btw scoffing at political parties is surely preferable to personal insults)
He posted some rather rude tweets about Loose Women.(among others) I'd be tempted to vote for him if he was standing here.
Except of course that the scoffing is usually intended to belittle those that support a party so is in fact name calling.
Is Mr Snell an AB member?
Er, no, not the same thing at all. Calling people names (apart from being boring and confusing for many on the "outside") is personal.
And having re-scanned the threat I can't see anything that could be construed as insulting to UKIP voters as a group, never mind individuals and never mind named ones

He is a total hypocrite.

/// The Labour hopeful, who previously labelled Jeremy Corbyn an “IRA supporting friend of Hamas” on social media, attempted to depict himself as a Brexiteer by hailing the Labour leader’s decision to force his party’s MPs to trigger Article

/// Snell said: “We’re a democratic party and we have to respect what the wishes of our voters are. Jeremy got it right.” ///

That's a surprising thing for you to say YMB.

Whilst I agree to a certain extent, we should be allowed to say what we think, I don't think some of us are allowed to any more.

I am a resident of the city, although this is not an election for my MP.

I work in Hanley, where Mr Nutall has opened a temporary base in a vacant shop in the city centre, and I understand he and Mr Farage were pelted with eggs when they appeared at the opening.

I think most here see Mr Nutall as a 'parachute' candidate - but given the woeful unsuitability of the previous incumbent, it's not as easy a call as in the past, when a pig with a Labour rosette pinned to it would walk into the seat.
"Mr Nuttall and Snell are among the favourites for the heavily Brexit-backing constituency, where 70 per cent backed the vote to leave the crumbling Brussels bloc."

Journalism at its finest :-)
What with that and the lovely "Remoaner" headline I don't think there's any danger of anyone being stifled here aog.
Even Mr Bercow's outrageous admission that ie was the *** hell spawn of the Satanic god of Brussels has not lead to his sudden and unexpected death :-)
Anyone pelting eggs at Mr Nuttall or Mr Farage I should say gets no support from me either
ichkeria - //Anyone pelting eggs at Mr Nuttall or Mr Farage I should say gets no support from me either //

Nor I - but the consensus is that the trouble was caused by bussed-in rabble rousers - Stokies don't hold with that kind of nonsense.
Just been reading some of Snell's Tweets, remind me again ... ... who is the Ukipper and who is the Labour candidate?

Snell is a *** idiot.
//Stokies don't hold with that kind of nonsense// as a fellow Stokie I'll second that...
