Well remembered Canary! I'd forgotten about that one.
Maybe they're lending their shoulder to a cause you care about then Anne?
Why are these celebs not petitioning Angel Merkel?
When she gave the green light and invited absolute chaos on Europe with her open door policy who took advantage of it?

Mostly young adult males, many of whom were economic migrants and not refugees. Most of the women, the old and the children were left behind, it was survival of the fittest.
The astronomical amount of money that has been wasted could have served to help far more deserving cases than these men with no backbone.

If Europe had a policy of only taking refugees from refugee camps there would not have anywhere near the amount of needless deaths in the med.

Everyday on here I read about the incompetence of Donald Trump from the same one track minded people ... why can you only spot incompetence from the people that do not represent you and your delusional view of the world?

Cue the idiot supreme ''why do you defend Trump blah ... blah ... blah''
AOG.....why can't these people voice their opinion on this subject, if they so wish ?

And why are they "luvvies" ?

More importantly, why are you trying to stifle debate ?

Is it only the Right Wing that is allowed to express an opinion ?

/// I can see your jackboots are polished nicely though. ///

Careful Ed you seem close to breaking your site's rules.
How?
"Why are these celebs not petitioning Angel Merkel?" - Because Merkel isn't the PM of the UK?

"If Europe had a policy of only taking refugees from refugee camps there would not have anywhere near the amount of needless deaths in the med." - Nonsense, people will try and cross anyway. Poor ***. The message of "you might not get to stay" isn't louder than "you might not make it alive", so why would it deter?

Trump is awful for a great swathe of the US population, many here have sympathy for them. Saying so doesn't express that you don't see failures elsewhere.

Many feel like immigration is the answer to the "why" of all our problems. It might be an answer to a few, or a percentage of some of them overall, but it's not the cure all.

Putting one's 'celebrity' autograph on a piece of paper, isn't a debate.
Do you think AOG? :)

Jackdaw probably receives it in the way he gives it out, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
That's just the Mail (and your) framing. Really we could be talking about whether we should be withdrawing our pitiful assistance to those in need?
Ed...the great difficulty with immigration is that it does indeed pop up on almost every thread. Its become the siren call of the Right, even when it has part to play in a debate. Its the cure-all, for lots of people.

Lets just get rid of the immigrants and everything will be tickety-boo again, just it was in the 50's.

May has deliberately gone back on her word over the Dubs Amendment... it was she that backed the amendment when it made its passage through Parliament. She should be ashamed of herself and yes, I have signed the petition as well.

And isn't he 'just the ticket' for an even greater swathe of the US population?

So much so that the majority of them voted him in to be their President.
AOG....."Putting one's 'celebrity' autograph on a piece of paper, isn't a debate."

This is your thread for goodness sake.........so now its not a debate ?
"And isn't he 'just the ticket' for an even greater swathe of the US population?

Are you sure about that?
Dubs uses old film footage of WW2 primary age children being brought to the UK to escape the Nazi gas chambers and death camps. This is duly seized upon as an example of a proud British "heritage" in compassion, by the very people who denigrate any one else who uses the National spirit engendered in the World War as a template for being British, as blinkered and demonstrating a "Little England" xenophobic attitude . Unlike these children how come most of the "children" in 2015/17 appear to be men or adolescent boys? Are they not safe in France or Italy or Greece Or Germany? If not how is that a UK responsibility? I also wonder how the costs compare between then and the present now that we have legions of "care professionals" whose very existence relies on..... yep vulnerable children.  I believe that it costs £40k per annum just for foster care, (£150k if a children's home is req) without health, education and the many additional benefits that are available. If every one of the signatories to this "letter" adopted one of these children in the style of guru Maddona they would all be housed without any expense being incurred by the rest of the UK and they can all afford it despite the hippy chic designer poorgeois image they desperately cling to.
For a lot of us AB is our stage, the place we can make our opinions known - for those in the public eye who have a broader stage, why not use it.

They may not always bemoan what we want them to or agree with out own thoughts, but if we care strongly enough we can start our own petitions, write our own letters and so on.
It's only the 'right' that have issues with our current immigration is it?

Right-oh. No wonder labour are struggling.
AOG....for the 99th time, Trump did not win a majority of the popular vote. I am not denying that he won by the Americans rules on Elections, but he did not get more votes !

How many times do you have to be told ?
Brexit hailed the end of refugees here.
So May lets in these children (and also the so called children)
it's drop in the ocean, looking at the bigger picture it will achieve virtually nothing.
But so long as Gary Lineker and friends think they have achieved something we can all rest in our beds thinking all is well in the world.

Call me cynical but I don't actually believe many ABers or indeed celebs feel anywhere near as much sympathy for the plight of others as they like to portray. I think most of the sympathy they feel is brought on by the presence of a keyboard.
