don't know, seems strange he has been labelled an Indian, what type, American Indian ?
is this to be with BBC bias, as i have found it so over time.
When he is a freedom fighter instead of a terrorist, or a homeless refugee but not an invading economic illegal migrant.
I don't know, when is a Muslim not a Muslim ?
When the Biased Bullschite Corporation decides he isn't?
"When is a Muslim not a Muslim?"

When he wants to live in peace and harmony with all mankind.
It could be that the first report that he is a Muslim is wrong. As a Kashmiri he is very likely to be Sikh or Hindu.
There are quite a few Muslims living in India particularly in Gujerat.
This reminds me of the case of the American tourist killed in London by a 'Norwegian' who turned out to be Somali. The power of the media, eh?
I have no idea if Tandeer Hussain is a muslim or not.

Indians are mostly Hindus, not muslims. Indian was not on the US ban.

He is an Indian athlete from Kashmir. Not a Kashmiri athlete.

The difference in description will depend on which Press Agency (or news reports) the BBC are basing their story on. The Times of Indian report of the initial ban did not say he was muslim, but US news outlets said he was a muslim athlete.
Naomi,

// This reminds me of the case of the American tourist killed in London by a 'Norwegian' who turned out to be Somali. The power of the media, eh? //

Except that never happened. The timeline can clearly be seen on the AB thread about the Russell Square attack here.

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1505978-3.html

The initial report said it was a gang attack, and that quickly changed to an ISIS attack. The first time Norwegian was mentioned, so was Somali. See the links at 11:55. There was no period when anyone was tricked into thinking the attacker was a European Norwegian, it always said a Norweigan passport holder who was a Somali was the man detained.
Gromit, that'll be the thread where you said ' Seems he was from Norway', and I'm guessing you gained that impression, as we all did, from the headlines the newspapers used.
Naomi,
Are you deliberately being thick? He was from Norway.

The newspaper headine was at 11:55 here

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2016/aug/04/london-stabbing-russell-square-knife-attack-live

It said he was a Norweigan Somali. I posted he was from Norway at 15:22.
Gromit, no I am not being deliberately thick. We're you? He came here from Norway but he was Somali.
If he is from Kashmir he may well be a Muslim as Kashmir is a disputed territory occupied by India & Pakistan.
Naomi,

// He came here from Norway but he was Somali. //

Correct. That is what the newspapers said that morning. There was never any attempt to hide his Somali ethnicity.

I said he came from Norway to answer those blaming it on Merkle and the EU. Norway are not in the EU.
Now if he can't be a Muslim because he comes from India, does that mean no one could conceivably be Muslim if they come from say............. Europe?
not sure if this anything to do with the question, but

Islam is the second largest religion in India, with 14.2% of the country's population or roughly 172 million people identifying as adherents (2011 census). Islam first came to the western coast of India with Arab traders as early as the 7th century AD to coastal Malabar and the Konkan-Gujarat.

They definitely tried to portray that Somalian Islamist as a Norwegian mental patient.
It's a standing joke on sensible sites.
Bengladesh distance themselves from pakistani muslims. As bengali Nadiya Hussain (best cake baker).
