Scotland's first minister has told the BBC she wants to find a referendum date that both sides can agree on.: Can they agree that it's going to happen at all.

The decision is up to the Scottish parliament which will be debating it next week. they then will vote on wither to let ms sturgeon make the call for a referendum or not.

A date that suits both sides would be preferable

I rather think that unlike general election, that voting in a referendum should be mandatory. You have to vote or get fined or something.

I think there should be no independance vote until after the next Scottish parliament elections in 2020/2021 or even a min of three years after Brexit has actually happened.

errr, no it isn't. constitutional matters rest with Westminster, per Reserved Matters under the Scotland Act 2012. Reserved Matters can be transfer under section 30 (this was how the last referendum was arranged) but it requires an act of parliament. Holyrood can call a referendum any time it likes but without the co-operation of Westminster there will be no section 30 and the referendum will not carry any legal weight.

What about the Basque region? Maybe they should be seeking independance again before Scotland takes its turn AGAIN.

steg, you and all the other cybernats can say what you like. you can even twist words and selectively edit posts to allegedly make your point. it doesn't alter the fact the law is the law, and Ms Sturgeon is astute enough to know that, and that the co-operation of Westminster is essential.

once the referendum is held and assuming the result is "oot", that doesn't mean Scotland will be sailing independently off into the north atlantic the day after, disaggregation will take years, and many hundreds of separate pieces of legislation. it may even be that ms sturgeon will be by then too old to be the leader of the first independent government of Scotland for 300 years.
