NJ as far as I am aware, it is not unlawful for a private seller to restrict a sale only to certain folk but by doing so they must surely restrict their market. Thry don't need a reason but my question remains still, why would they do so? I am wondering why, in this instance, only English folk are considered not to be time-wasting?
Christ this thread is like a textbook on mental illness from some people's responses.
'Good old Great Britain' was only ever good or great if you were a white, Christian. middle class male. Thankfully we HAVE moved on from that and that involves bringing right wing, racist, xenophobic sexist people in line with the law we which was set up to make sure that ' Great Britain' is great for everyone. No possible logical reason for this ignorant fool to have placed the advert with the wording he did.

That is frightening.

I don't like you philosophy on life but equally I don't think ignoring or defending obvious problems is any better.

Sorry Corby, I didn't realise what you were getting at.
The man is clearly an idiot. If he wants to sell his car (and presumably he does or he would not have paid to advertise it) it surely makes no sense to restrict your potential audience of buyers. There must be time-wasters across all races and nationalities and similarly genuinely interested buyers. To assume otherwise is just daft.
The issue of legality may not be straightforward. In 1976 Robert Relf
put up a sale sign outside his house in Leamington Spa, which stated he would only sell to white people, which he later modified to "English people". He was eventually jailed for contempt after he refused to take the sign down. Without looking up the details I'm not sure why he was told to remove the sign. It may have been something to do with local authority bylaws or something rather than simply accusations of discrimination. However I doubt that even the most draconian of council bylaws extend to Facebook.
