Should the policewoman just have given the Father a warning, and let the girls keep the flowers,
or should the Father have bought flowers from a florist, in the first place?

It takes a hell of a lot to make me angry but somebody saying "I pay your wages" makes my blood boil. I once worked in an environment where people often said this when they couldn't get their own way. My reply was always the same, would you please give me a raise, I don't get paid enough to take your abuse.

What would they do with a kilo of heroin then?
Give it to the local care home. :-)
I feel quite strongly about this, even got in a row when something similar was reported in my local paper. the policeman was right, flowers in parks and on verges and in gardens (I don't mean wild ones although there is a similar argument)are not there to be picked, they are for everyone to enjoy and the father knew damned well he was being a cheapshot and nicking them.
Junk it, ellipsis ...
I have been thinking about this. If the man hadn't filmed himself behaving like a complete plonker, we wouldn't know anything about this at all.

So, a plonker x 2 !
my feeling is that 20 is way too many and he should have stepped in earlier.

However if the kids had only taken 3 or 4, would intervention by the sweeney still have been called for?

“Kids like picking flowers.”

Yes I’m sure they do. But if you allow them to pick any they like without having the rules explained to them the next thing is that they will be in my front garden stealing my blooms. Children need to learn right from wrong and it is generally the parents’ responsibility to do so. If the parents cannot or will not do so or, even worse, they actively encourage them to steal, then somebody else has to take over. No doubt the proud father took his footage to post up on FaceTwit or whatever and I’m sure it enabled him to demonstrate his righteous indignation. Had he educated his children properly he would have had nothing to be indignant about.
He should have got some from the supermarket or something.

If every family came along and took 27 daffy or other flowers there would be none left.

He was just teaching his daughters how to be indignant at being caught taking something that is not theirs to take.
As an aside, I went to Sainsburys today and they had £25.00 bouquets of flowers at half price!

That just shows the shocking mark up price of flowers on special days. Disgusting!

whilst the important bods were inside discussing this

What an utter spoon this guy is!

No wonder his wife/gf didn't get out of the car, she was probably trying to hide from her cretin of a partner.
I know it was wrong and dad had a bad take on the situation..but think polis were a bit OTT ..a this is wrong lecture..now go home and don't do it again would suffice...take the daffs with you this time.would have been limp by the time they went to care home....escalated needlessly because of his gob !
It was theft, pure and simple. Not a good example to set for children.
Hear what you're saying MM, but theft is theft, you can't put a monetary figure on it and think "well, it's not worth much, so you can keep it this time".

hopefully the girls have learnt a valuable lesson and that spoon of a dad will be laughed at wherever he goes for quite a while.
