I have to agree with Einstein and Andy Hughes here. As apalling as the deaths of Holly and Jessica are, the determination of guilt must be carried out by a jury of people with open minds NOT by people who have read about the case and may have reached a conclusion already. Sadly, fuelled by media hysteria a fair trial may already be impossible. Surely it is best to ensure that the guilty parties are locked away rather than imprisioning a.n. other person because of a desire for a result - due to the emotive and terrible nature of the case? Jailing the genuine perpertrators protects the community and punishes the wrongdoers and is surely the aim now? Similarly, a judge should determine what happens to anyone who is found guilty. Additionally, for MT, a point about the death sentence... Traditionally, the Sun newspaper has been pro bringing back the death sentence. The Sun also campaigned for the release of Corporal Lee Clegg, who they claimed was not guilty of murder after shooting at a vehicle he claimed contained IRA suspects. If their first wish had come true, Lee Clegg would have been dead months before he was freed... Conclusion: The death sentence is unworkable.
