Have to agree Einstein - we have to let the law take its course and try to avoid the understandable, if irrational baying for blood that seems to accompany the murders of children. The death penalty is not a deterrent, or a punishment, it is revenge, but its use is another impossible moral dilema, and it may continue to be debated here.
I have to agree with Einstein and Andy Hughes here. As apalling as the deaths of Holly and Jessica are, the determination of guilt must be carried out by a jury of people with open minds NOT by people who have read about the case and may have reached a conclusion already. Sadly, fuelled by media hysteria a fair trial may already be impossible. Surely it is best to ensure that the guilty parties are locked away rather than imprisioning a.n. other person because of a desire for a result - due to the emotive and terrible nature of the case? Jailing the genuine perpertrators protects the community and punishes the wrongdoers and is surely the aim now? Similarly, a judge should determine what happens to anyone who is found guilty. Additionally, for MT, a point about the death sentence... Traditionally, the Sun newspaper has been pro bringing back the death sentence. The Sun also campaigned for the release of Corporal Lee Clegg, who they claimed was not guilty of murder after shooting at a vehicle he claimed contained IRA suspects. If their first wish had come true, Lee Clegg would have been dead months before he was freed... Conclusion: The death sentence is unworkable.
I think it's patently obvious that someone who is capable of murder in the first place is not going to be able to rationalize enough to see the death penalty as a deterrent. I can't see what can stop the desire to kill *before* the event.
Agree with all above, and also believe in the philosophy of Gandalf from "Lord Of the Rings". he believed that although there are many who deserve death, there are also those who die that deserve life."can you give it to them/" he asked "then don't be so quick to take it from others"

I agree with you all and I will read your answers more next time.
Death Penalty is a deterrent for the Paedophile who dies. I know this is not the perfect answer, but these people have the highest re-offence rate of any criminal. They often stalk a target for years gradually becoming more and more familiar to the victim. If all convicted paedophiles were killed, surely it would protect children.
locking a paedophile away for life will solve the problem as well, as you dont get many 6 year olds in prison.
I think it should be pointed out that the police clearly don't think Maxine Carr was involved in the murder. The only thing they've charged her with is an Attempt To Pervert The Course Of Justice - in other words, the only thing they think she did wrong was to try to protect her boyfriend. There's a LOT of difference between that and being charged with murder.
Yes Snotmonkey, no 6 year olds in prison.Life in prison should mean 'Life' but Look at Nicholas Fairbairn, who campaigned tirelessly for the release of Myra Hindley.(and some would say almost successfully) Article on Channel 5 tonight about paedophiles going to Cambodia on Holiday so they can do their stuff. 1 000 000 children per year forced into prostitution worldwide. I just think that there is no other way to protect children from these people. Also, if Maxine Carr was protecting her boyfriend, then she should be prosecuted. I do not mean that she should be subject to the death penalty at all, only proven Paedophiles.
there was a story in the news today about a muderer and rapist who is wanted by the police as he jumped bail. why was this man given bail in the first place?
so they can concentrate on catching motorists for feeble offences.
do you really think that this is an appropriate place to be judge and jury? i wish everyone would leave the families, friends and villagers of soham alone, as they have repeatedly requested.
It's all 'sub judice' at the moment.. so I wouldn't like to comment.
Myra Hindley look at that name Myra Hindley one of the most hated names in the UK BUT Myra Hindley did not commit murder. Now what differs Myra Hindly to Maxine Carr. The only difference between them is that Myra's b/f Was a Serial Killer Legend and Ian Huntly was caught before he could be a seriel killer legend. Now how could he ov done this all behind Her back with out her knowing something, Then giving such a cold hearted lie when she is in the interview room. She I believe was just as much apart of it as him. I think it turned them on and that they should both be strung up like dogs and both be murdered the same way them to sweet girls was.
