My money is on this - she was asked about whether she was in a relationship, possibly because of rumours that already exist, and in order to put paid to them, she simply answered honestly.

The result of that is some people (oddly) start saying, "Why do we need to know about this?"

I always find it odd, because these same people don't post, "Why do we need to know about Theresa May being married to a man?"

I suspect it's because of issues they have due to...I dunno. I'm stumped.

Notice how one line from a whole series of interviews is the one thing that the DM has focussed on in its headline, and this is what the narrative has now become.

As far as I can tell from the meat of this story, she has the potential to be a rather good commissioner.

It's a bit like when Thatcher became PM. That was a big news story for quite some time, because she was the first female Prime Minister.

However, once people got used to that, we could focus on what she did, rather than what she was.

Same thing has happened with gay people and the younger demographic.

Younger people haven't grown up in a country where being gay could land you in jail, so their relationship to gay people is completely different to those of previous generations.

That will be a great thing.

You are still not grasping this, sp. Each generation experiences a different set of morals etc when growing up, and not everyone switches their moral code to that of the next generations as they age. You are right that the future generations probably won't be hung up on this matter, but when you are the older generation there may well be things the younger generation are doing that you will be uncomfortable with. That is how it works I'm afraid.

We don’t need to know. And it's unlikely the question would be asked because as far as I know, Mrs May did not specifically mention that she was married to a man in an interview with the Evening Standard. Ms Dick did, hence the question.
