Nothing may come of the Assange thing: IMO Sweden is where that individual needs to go. But given that Assange is plainly a conduit knowingly or otherwise for probably doctored leaks that seem to have Kremlin links, is this just another way of the administration at least showing they they are not in VVP's pocket?
