I've never visited the country, but I know something from a distance and of its history viz. after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire it was turned into a liberal secular state by Attaturk, but that is all about to be altered by Erdogan turning it into a fascist Islamic dictatorship.
Of the several problems for the West, under Obama's watch, NATO has nuclear weapons on Turkish soil and Germany has many factories and commercial interests there.

the one and only time we visited was sailing from Greece to Turkey, the day we spent there was lovely, had great time. As to its politics, isn't this hardliner going to kill off the massive tourist trade, not to mention many of its people going missing and being incarcerated. as to the weapons can they be moved elsewhere ?
