20,000 Less Police Since 2010
Much was said yesterday by our Tory supporters on AB, about the mess Abbot made of her interview on LBC, and quite rightly so....she made a hash of it.
But the central issue of Police numbers still remains, and should be of real concern to all of us.
Why, since 2010 have the Tories made such savage cuts to the Police funding, that they now have 20,000 less Officers ? The Tories used to be known as the party of Law and Order, but it doesn't look like it now does it ?

What should be of concern are real Crime figures and how the money paid to them is spent.
Perhaps if some of the top plod were not paid such ridiculous sums of money to spend time on 'diversity' and other such rubbish there would be more to spend on 'coppers on the beat' if required.

Its a bit short sighted to concentrate in the 20,000 figure as a simple number that has been reduced. Also, why is the proposal for only 10,000 new policemen if it is correct that we need the 20,000 that have been reduced?
The real interest is how the reduction in numbers has affected crime rates and whether it is an efficient use of resources. Even if the result is that crime rates have risen slightly then it still makes sense if it makes more efficient use of the cash available.
Cuts have had to be made one way or another because of the economy.

ymb....ask people who have been burgled and the crime not investigated how they feel about the lack of Police Officers.
Our cities, and towns as well, are being overwhelmed by a huge explosion in drug addiction, mostly concerned with spice. So if the Police are being depleted, who is going to deal with that ?
This isn't just a problem for us "lefties" ...we all have the right to live without our lives being blighted by crime.

No Mikey but I am concerned about policing. Its just that the numbers of police isnt the important figure and if you take away the political point you are trying to score I would prefer lower numbers still but more efficient use of them. I would say the same for hospitals and nurses.
I will be a Tory voter but I dont care which party delivers efficiency.
Labours solution always seems to be that we should throw more money at it and the problems will go away - didnt work on the NHS either.
I would invest money in technology rather than police in numbers because its more efficient.

Quoi....I want crimes to be investigated, not just shuffled off in a cul-de-sac called "no money to do anything"
If you ask people if they would like to see more Police around and on the beat, people always yes, of course !
You haven't addressed the huge drug problems that are blighting Britain today. And yes, of course its a political discussion....we are in the throes of another Election, and the Tories will have to deal with these savage cuts to police number, and I make no apology for bringing the subject up.

Mikey - I am not saying there aren't problems but just pure numbers of police isnt the solution.
//If you ask people if they would like to see more Police around and on the beat, people always yes, of course ! //
Of course but that doesnt make it the right answer for the problems this country faces. Technology has moved on in such huge steps that I believe that almost the most INefficient use of police resources would be on the street.
I could buy a lot of technology with the numbers Ms Abbott was throwing around yesterday.
As for the drugs problem - the police solution isn't going to be the answer to that - it was always unrealistic to control it by law IMO.- I believe seeking an answer through a social/community route will be more plausible.

Efficiency, within reason, is a decent goal to aim for, but a drop of 1½% is unlikely not to be felt. One could look at the crime figures, if an agreed accurate account could be found, but even that depends on people reporting crime and the police recording it. The problem seems to be that authorities are all pleading poverty for everything, yet they seem to grab enough of our money in taxes. Where are they stashing it all ?
OG....this BBC link will explain how this figure of 20,000 comes from

/// This isn't just a problem for us "lefties" ...we all have the right to live without our lives being blighted by crime. ///
And who mainly is responsible for this crime, Drug dealing, Terrorism, Child abduction, knife crime, pick pocketing etc etc?
All part of Labour's mass immigration programme, and their dream of multiculturalism.

Didn't Blair allow former Communist bloc Eastern European countries into Britain, while the rest of the EU put a 7 year transition period on them?

“If you ask people if they would like to see more Police around and on the beat, people always yes, of course !”
Outside central London and the airports I have not seen a police officer “on the beat” for probably 25 years. I don’t even think they have “beats” any longer. Actually, if you ask people about crime their main concerns seem to be veering towards cyber crime. They are concerned that their bank accounts might be plundered by hackers; they are concerned that their little darlings are being “bullied” on Twitface or whatever it is they use. That is why there are fewer officers on the streets. Many of them are ensconced in offices trying to find out who is putting around scurrilous remarks about little Tracey being fat.
I accept that there should be concern that there are 20,000 fewer police officers in total. But that should not be viewed in isolation. In any case, the country is spending far too much money. It seems nobody wants to give up on foreign aid; they are quite content to see a family with three children paid almost two and a half thousand pounds annually tax free for the privilege; they still want to pay for the Royal Navy to ferry migrants from Libya to Italy. So something has to give.
