For raising the security threat to critical. AFTER the terror attack here in Manchester. Thank you for allowing this terrorist to carry out murder when your wonderful security forces already knew what he was planning. Thank you.
with the greatest will and best intentions how could such actions be anticipated or prevented..if one chooses to strap a bomb to oneself and detonate it in a public place...where there is a will...it can happen anywhere at any time..and nowt anyone could do to stop it !
Who was to blame in 2005? Not everything is a cheap political jibe, such a comment gives joy to the perpetrators in its divisive tone, rather than the country being divided we more than ever need to be united.
How many other attempts have been foiled by the maligned security services? We don't know and for operational reasons should not be told.
Maybe if they were denied state aid when arrested there would be no lawyers to manipulate the system to keep them on the streets.
We have no idea how many plots were thwarted prior. I suspect many are on the list of possible activists. Can't win every time, just enough to make it clear such acts have no benefit to the terrorist, because as a group we carry on as before, noting we were right about the evil some individuals harbour. I'm unconvinced a change of status achieves much.
Good point zebo. It's impossible to stop and search every single person on the streets. It just can't be done. The security forces, both civil and military, do a wonderful job of keeping us safe. They lay their lives on the line on a daily basis. They deserve our praise, not criticism.
it is most unfair and not justified in any way at all to lay blame for these atrocities at the feet of those doing their utmost to protect us as a nation....as recently demonstrated on Westminster Bridge...lives are lost in the line of duty..but for them.......
A properly resourced service with facilities for the detention of those already identified as completely barking along with getting over this 'can't put hands on a brown person' BS would go a long way to bolstering our security as a society.
