Trying to follow the election results and know it is a hung government, why are the Tories getting in bed with DUP?
Can someone explain in English.
The news here in the U.S. don't know what they're talking about!!

Sharon....the DUP is the only other Party that Mrs May could have gone to, to prop up her minority win.

If she can't get them to assist her, every time there is an important vote, then Labour can call for a vote of confidence, and win. The May will have to call another Election.

The DUP is socially conservative: it is anti-abortion, opposes same-sex marriage, and formerly campaigned against the legalisation of homosexual acts in Northern Ireland.

It has also appointed a climate change denier, Sammy Wilson, as environment minister in Northern Ireland[54] and a Young Earth creationist, Mervyn Storey, as its education minister.

None of these policies are Tory policies, yet May is preparing to get into bed with the DUP !
Because the DUP is the closest in policy to the Conservatives.
The Conservatives need extra MP's on their side to get a majority in the House of Commons. The 10 DUP MP's will just be enough but it will still be very 'tight'.
Interesting link Tonyav..........it seems that the DUP and the Tories are already at odds over many issues, but if the bribe that May will offer is big enough, than I am sure the DUP can be "flexible"

I'm sure they will, mikey.
Has the woman no pride? She cocked up big-time and should now quietly leave the stage.
lol Tony !
Unlike the Conservatives, the DUP is in favour of keeping the "triple lock" for pensions and the Winter Fuel Allowance ( ! )
There must be lots of folk who've gone to bed with somebody and really, really regretted it....she could....

I have no time at all for the DUP and was very saddened but not surprised at May's decision....

I am glad she has had the cockiness knocked out of her but I so wish the UK was in the hands of good leadership......strong people who were putting the country first.....any party would do if they just did the job properly, selflessly and well.....x
Well they had to find something that wasn't sickening, Mikey.....x
The DUP are pro-Brexit. Somewhat odd policies to most minds (Ian Paisley's party) but they won't change existing status quo on abortion, for one instance. Any problem is more likely to arise over constitutional issues in N. Ireland. Politics makes strange bedfellows, but the aim for the greatest good must always prevail.
Why the DUP ? Who else can support their government and give them a majority in the votes ?
I hope this doesn't turn out to be a case of the tail wagging the dog, or in this instance the b. i. t. c. h.
Theresa May is only doing what James Callaghan (labour) did in the seventies but I suppose that was alright.
What's the betting there is a sudden and rapid increase in schools, roads, and hospitals in Northern Ireland over the next few months?

Thanks for your enlightening replies. Am wiser than this morning.

I can only say one thing, 'What a mess!'
A mess indeed, Sharon....and a sad one.....not only that but I'm too old to be staying up all night for the results.....not twice in one year!

Anyway....how are you and how is your aunt doing?..x
Andy - ooo you are a cynic!

Actually, it was mentioned on QT tonight that the DUP are a formidable lot and negotiate strongly.

Mrs May will need to understand that they will be no pushovers.
