One of the richest constituencies in the country, and never before had a Labour MP.

This has to be one of the most bizarre results of this election.

Further proof how the Tories got this contest so badly wrong.

Whilst Kensington may be the richest constituency in the country, the situation is not quite so straightforward as you would imagine:

“Housing varies between expensive apartments with manicured gardens in architecturally stunning squares or terraces and, by contrast, North Kensington and Ladbroke Grove have for the most part dense social housing, tower blocks in output areas with high rankings in the 2000-compiled Index of Multiple Deprivation.”

Since the latter numerically far outweigh the former the constituency's affluence is obviously highly skewed by a relatively small number of high value people. As described above (which I cribbed from Wiki) the north of the constituency (especially the Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill areas) are areas of high multiple occupancy and high density social housing.

Twin this result with the Labour win in Canterbury, and its not difficult to see where May has gone so disastrously wrong.

Lets hope all this shuts up all those "how can anybody vote Labour" siren calls.

I was with my oldest friend last night who has only ever voted Labour, and yet in this election he voted Tory, but more telling for me was that he told me his father, an ex shop steward of the GMB and a staunch Labour supporter also couldn't vote Labour this time solely because of Corbyn. He decided not to vote at all as whilst he felt he couldn't vote for Labour this time, there was no way he would've voted Tory.

I found it interesting that two life-long Labour voters could not be bring themselves to vote Labour solely as a result of Corbyn being the leader.

was first noticed by Booth when he drew Booths map of poverty in 1889. High streets rich ( red) and servants' housing (poor) behind.

In contrast to the main cities in Europe where whole areas were depressed poor ghettoes ( and they travelled into "work" )

It won't shut me up, Mikey. I've lived under a number of Labour governments and none of them has ever done me or the country much good. I cannot understand how anybody could ever vote Labour and I particularly cannot understand how they could do so with the current axis of Communists and Marxists at its helm. I respect their right to do so, and would not offend them or denigrate them (because that's not what I do). But I cannot understand them.

The unthinkable has happened....Corbyn and Labour now look electable, despite all that was said before the Election. The British people have seen through the smokescreen put up by May and her now discredited Team ( Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill quit No 10 after election criticism )

Why did people in places like Canterbury and Kensington not believe all the anti-Corbyn propaganda ?

OG, the problem was that Mrs May refused to listen to any of her own MP's or even her cabinet ministers and chose to rely totally on her 2 'trusted advisers' .
Who have now been sacked in disgrace! Allegedly it was not May who decided on the snap election but her 'advisers'
What more do you need to prove she 'had not got a clue' what she was doing!
Now she has 'advisers ' who do not believe in evolution ,want abortion to become a crime , consider the Pope to be the 'Antichrist and abandon human rights for gay and transexual people.

Mikey, Labour lost - so sour grapes isn’t an issue. Just incredulity that Corbyn managed to pull the wool over eyes that one would have liked to believe were actually open.

The actual, and more subtle than some people realise, meaning of the fable 'sour grapes' is to describe a party that doesn't get what they want pretending that they didn't want it in the first place.

In this case the 'grapes' were more seats in the house of commons and as that did not happen the 'pretending they didn't want them in the first place' is ignoring that fact and saying that actually they only wanted to have a majority and pretending to be happy with that outcome.
