Ok it's hot and I understand the density issues etc but how does a plane ever get off the ground in the perpetually hot places, like the middle east etc?

Do temperatures in the Middle East exceed 120 degrees F.?
I've not read the article entirely but it looks like it answers your question in full: different plane designs, or flying mostly in evenings and at night from Middle-Eastern countries to avoid the worst of the heat.
It would appear that temperature is only attained in the Sahara desert.

Yes danny it's regularly of that order, it has been over 56 degrees C (132F) in the Sahara and that is a shade temperature.
If the captain/pilot is unhappy, then I'd take his word for it and simply not board the flight.
TTT, but there are no airports in the Sahara desert.
Question Author
yes there are and that is just an example.
I think the articles explains it well.

//The local Fox News affiliate in Phoenix said the cancellations mostly affected regional flights on the smaller Bombardier CRJ airliners, which have a maximum operating temperature of about 118F (48C).//

I thought I'd seen a thread on this earlier, heat must be getting to me too.
TTT, there is only one small airport in the Sahara Desert. Are you confusing Western Sahara with the desert?
Question Author
stop digging sunshine, the sahara is just an example, the arabian peninsula gets just as hot.
I could well be too hot to fly.

when you have this post open, scroll down to page " I could have stolen my old car with my mobile phone " Very interesting.
not sure what happens now, but when we used to fly home from Dubai, all the flights took off at night.
Engine power,(smaller planes affected) + runway length(desert not as affected by ludicrous 'price of land', plus noise/disturbance to locals).

International flights- bigger plane/engines Largely unaffected.
