I wonder if they will get free rent, or given a year or two to get their lives back together?

Eddies: One of my points precisely.
Scooping ,
whichever party is in government when this comes to a coroner' s verdict is going to have to pay £ multi millions . That is fact not 'playing politics'.
If it is a Labour government they will just blame it on the previous government , a lot easier than haveing to accept responsibility!
That is why Mrs May is asking a public enquiry ! she does not want a full inquest!
Unfortunate as it is, a story such as this is ALWAYS going to be highly political !!
"Why do some find it so difficult to read links"

Maybe the same reason others don't read multiple news sources to find out facts before going online, abusing another member and then skulking off into the night with their tails between their legs once they realised they were were wrong and didn't apologise as they wanted to stay macho in the eyes of their peers maybe?
Eddies: You're impuning bass motives where they might not exist. Benefit of the doubt might be appropriate until proved otherwise.
Hope the outside cladding has been inspected !!!!
The very wording of the headline makes a political point by describing the replacement housing as 'Luxury Homes' , but what can you expect from the Tory loving Daily Wail?
That's a brilliant deal, some comforting news.
quangoid; "6-With all of these "benefits" are you a little concerned that "Joe shmoe" living in a horrible old block might decide to torch his block so he can move out of his dump? " - good point.
No mention on the BBC website, of these flats being "luxury"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40357280
They're probably termed 'luxury' because of the location. On the open market, they're valuable properties.
I don't know about London but round here 'affordable' housing association phew build properties have to be made to a higher standard that the shmuk paying good money on the same estate.

Although I might be a bit peed off if I paid a whacking great big £1.5mil for my flat only for the rest to be given to HA but overall I don't have a problem with them being housed there. It is in the area they were living in and the council or whoever have got them at cost price.

Personally if I had escaped that fire I would chop off my own leg NOT to be rehoused in another high rise. It would frighten the life out of me.

I am not a legal eagle but how can anyone be unlawfully killed IF the cladding, refurbishments and things had all the required kite marks and 'stuff'?

Where I agree if you are made aware that problems could occur if a, b or c is installed you should look into it but what are you supposed to do if the legal obligation is met?
Mamy says it all :::::

That's a brilliant deal, some comforting news.
Well I wouldn't be very happy if I had paid 1,500,000 and found my neighbours had got one for free. The maintenance fees must be very high, I wouldn't want to pay if they didn't. Surely surely there was a better solution. Well I don't have a flat there, so there you go !
Samuraisan, someone will be paying the fees - even if it isn't the new residents. The Council or Social Services I expect.
Nice Naomi. I am glad my taxes aren't contributing to swimming pool and gym maintenance.
I know.

I thought the Social Services were skint Naomi?
trt, I've no idea.
anne, I see the cladding was inspected 16 times in two years by council inspectors. Not one of them queried the supposedly banned cladding.

That's pretty appalling.

jno, the cladding wasn't inspected 16 times - the renovation works were inspected 16 times. Presumably the cladding had already been approved so no reason to carry out quality/safety checks on that. I imagine only the fitting etc., would have been checked to ensure that it conformed to building regulations.
