There seems to be a lot of talk of blaming the government of the time (i.e. Conservative) for it if it was down to austerity.
Why was there austerity? Was it simply because they just happen to want to make life difficult? Was it just because they didn't want to try to dig a whole at the end of the rainbow for a nonexistent pot of gold?
No. It was because the previous government (i.e. Labour) trashed the economy by spending money we didn't have, sold our gold reserves for a knockdown price and very quickly and ultimately couldn't cope with the economic crash.
So who's to blame for austerity?

Fire Escape route are supposed to be 'Protected'; that means they are separated from the main parts of the building by fully-functioning Fire Doors.....one way to completely compromise this compartmentation is to route *** unprotected gas-pipes through the area!!!!!
I am convinced that the Cladding-issue will devolve down into the Contractor trying to improve his 'bottom-line'.

# From the news reports today this is NOT just over the cladding, there are no internal fire doors !!!! '
It was said that a lot of the residence, changed their doors for more fancy ones.
Two hours to get out seems a bit OTT to me, and no thoughts for people with pets, as some were not allowed in hotels with them.
Sleeping in rest centers, on blow up mattresses is not good enough IMO, especially with young children. What a Cock-Up!

/// Just heard Sajid Javid categorically say, to John Humphries, that whatever the bill will be for, for local Councils, when it comes to making tower blocks safe, the Government will pay. ///
That's mighty generous of him, since it is not the Governments money, it is ours.
Now is the time to withdraw overseas aid and use the money to help our own.

The poor residents should not be forced to leave, what should have happened was for a mass workforce employed straight away, be them the fire service, or armed services etc, so as to rip off all the unsafe cladding, and while that is being done, contractors could be addressing the other safety measures indoors.
Given the opportunity, I am sure that is what the residents would wish for.
