///What a pity that all those people had to die before something was done///

Do you think it might possibly be that until those people died no-one was aware that anything needed to be done?
People were very well aware of the problem!

^ But these 71 'landlord MP's' made sure the problem was able to be ignored!
Then there was this moron Gavin Barwell !

He blocked a tower block fire safety report for 4 years, lost his seat when Mrs May called the snap election but was promptly reinstated to parliment by being appointed as Mrs May's 'special advisor! '
Sorry, he blocked the report for a year not 4 years.
there was more than 71, 312 to be exact and if you read this it explains why.

Dave
Who will be rehoused, those living there or those whose name is on the rent book ? The Grenfall fire has highlighted the problems councils face through fraud.
From the news reports today this is NOT just over the cladding, there are no internal fire doors !!!!
Do you have evidence of that Eddie ?
There seems to be a lot of talk of blaming the government of the time (i.e. Conservative) for it if it was down to austerity.

Why was there austerity? Was it simply because they just happen to want to make life difficult? Was it just because they didn't want to try to dig a whole at the end of the rainbow for a nonexistent pot of gold?

No. It was because the previous government (i.e. Labour) trashed the economy by spending money we didn't have, sold our gold reserves for a knockdown price and very quickly and ultimately couldn't cope with the economic crash.

So who's to blame for austerity?
I hope there are proper security patrols for these flats.

It would be a real kicker if there was looting.

Also leaving electrical appliances on and unattended could have the exact effect they are trying to avoid.
Anne is was reported on the news. As well as the cladding there is issues with the gas pipes.
Fire Escape route are supposed to be 'Protected'; that means they are separated from the main parts of the building by fully-functioning Fire Doors.....one way to completely compromise this compartmentation is to route *** unprotected gas-pipes through the area!!!!!

I am convinced that the Cladding-issue will devolve down into the Contractor trying to improve his 'bottom-line'.

Eddie....(09:25)....well said....when the Enquiry has finished, there will an awful lot of egg left on some people faces.
Know doubt jth, but surely these tower blocks would have had regular if not compulsory checking system ?
Yes well said EDDIE, that link tells us everything about who voted Aye and who voted Nay.

It also tells us which MP's are landlords ... great link and very informative.

Anne...yes they would have had annual fire checks, so I am at a total loss to understand why all the inadequacies in the buildings have gone unnoticed for so many years.

Curiouser and curiouser !
Who is Thomas G Clark aka AnotherAngry Voice? I've never heard of him. Not you is it EDDIE;-))

Webbo thank you for your link @ 9.35 which fills in the bits that EDDIE's links miss out.
# From the news reports today this is NOT just over the cladding, there are no internal fire doors !!!! '

It was said that a lot of the residence, changed their doors for more fancy ones.

Two hours to get out seems a bit OTT to me, and no thoughts for people with pets, as some were not allowed in hotels with them.

Sleeping in rest centers, on blow up mattresses is not good enough IMO, especially with young children. What a Cock-Up!

/// Just heard Sajid Javid categorically say, to John Humphries, that whatever the bill will be for, for local Councils, when it comes to making tower blocks safe, the Government will pay. ///

That's mighty generous of him, since it is not the Governments money, it is ours.

Now is the time to withdraw overseas aid and use the money to help our own.
The poor residents should not be forced to leave, what should have happened was for a mass workforce employed straight away, be them the fire service, or armed services etc, so as to rip off all the unsafe cladding, and while that is being done, contractors could be addressing the other safety measures indoors.

Given the opportunity, I am sure that is what the residents would wish for.
