if the Grefell victims move in to her building.

Cant say I blame her, the properties will devalue enormously.

Well, I won't.
Mikey, //Testicles. //

Really? Why?
Jim, I don't doubt that.
naomi can you tell me where you answered my question as I can't seem to find it.
mikey , Yes I can only say there must have been a lot of 'fat brown envelopes ' being handed out!
I think the police will be looking at a lot more manslaughter charges now!
Eddie...this whole affair is starting to stink to high heaven !
Jim, until you've been in that position (and I doubt your socialist principles will ever see you being) then you can't possibly comment as to whether it's selfish or not. Some fine 'principles' being aired on here but I'm pretty sure they're far from reality if those expressing them were to be in the position of householders being eyed up.
Eddie, //naomi can you tell me where you answered my question as I can't seem to find it.//

All the way through this thread. The answer to your question is the whole basis of my argument.

Zacs, //Some fine 'principles' being aired on here but I'm pretty sure they're far from reality if those expressing them were to be in the position of householders being eyed up.//

Absolutely right. No one has, for example, considered that some the current residents of those flats will very likely end up in negative equity. Some seriously joined up thinking required around here!
Some property owners in the West Ken area are enjoying value rises of around £10,000 + per week....generally free of tax.Do we really feel sorry for these people? Property prices everywhere change daily as decisions and infrastructure change. Its a risk with any investment.I'm sure the fortunate few will bounce back.
How will moving help this woman?
I can see how it would help everyone else :-)
"I feel sorry for those people, but my husband and I work very hard to be able to afford this. And for someone to get it free, I would move.'

That is a nonsensical statement. If she thinks the property will devalue then, as many others do, she will move. It is up to her. It isn't hard-hearted it's perfectly natural. But the above objection is something else, and a complete irrelevance.
Really, Ryzen?.....Bounce back?.......How on earth will they ever bounce back from the thought that they could have gone into negative equity....I hadn't considered that.......they must be suffering.
I suppose they could form a support group....demand therapy......counselling....... :-)
At the risk of being accused of entering Godwin's Law, aren't things being taken all out of proportion?

During the Blitz, many homes where destroyed in the bombings, but the authorities didn't move out the whole of the East end, simply because that the bombers might come back again.

And let's face it there was a cast iron chance that they would come back, more so than the present unlikely chance that another disastrous high rise flat fire will take place very soon.
Regarding a potential reduction in property values, isn't this woman, and others like her, contributing to that drop by panicking and leaving? Far better to wait it out rather than think the worst will happen...
gness @10:51..imagine the size of your West Ken property mortgage if you were in negative equity.
naomi, despite what you say, I still do not see an answer to my question >
'What would you do if you were the head of a London council , that found overnight that it had to rehouse several hundred of its tenants?'
Could you do better than what has been done, if so what ?
I really want to know!.
Eddie...I am waiting for some on here to suggest that the evacuation of these Tower Blocks isn't really necessary !
ANOTHEOLDGIT, there is a big difference between the Blitz and this situation. In the Blitz, thousands of bombs were dropped and most houses were as likely to be bombed as the next.

In the current situation, there are tower blocks believed to be potential hazards and action is being taken. Folk can be moved to locations where it is KNOWN there are no or minimal risks, so they are not in the same position as those in the Blitz.
AOG...." unlikely chance that another disastrous high rise flat fire will take place very soon"

Nobody can say that, which is why the Council has decided on its present course of action. Every Tower Block, with cladding, that has been tested, has so far failed the test. And that is only in London. We must have 100's more of these potential fire traps in the UK....maybe more.
gness, //How on earth will they ever bounce back from the thought that they could have gone into negative equity....I hadn't considered that.......//

Clearly, you hadn’t, but then perhaps you don’t understand what negative equity means to someone who is paying a mortgage.

Eddie, I’ll make it simple for you. If I were the head of a London council that found overnight that it had to rehouse several hundred of its tenants, initially I would do what that council did – put those who didn’t have friends or family to go to in hotels whilst I sourced permanent homes for them. What I wouldn’t do is ride roughshod over other people regardless of the impact that might have on their lives.
It is very easy to take the moral high ground when it isn't affecting you. I have to admit that if I had a flat in the block I would consider it a bit more than an 'inconvenience'.
