Maybe the electorate wouldn't have been quite so "gullible" if the only alternative choice had actually run a competent campaign?

Interesting, too, that you should call out Corbyn for being not what his followers thought what they were getting, when much the Tory manifesto is likely to be discarded in like manner. At least Corbyn was never going to be able to fail to deliver on his promises.

No, he was underestimated. Two years, almost, he led the Labour Party, and not a day went by when he wasn't vilified or criticised -- often justly, just as often way overdone. And he was described as unelectable, and despite the loss leading Labour to their largest vote share since 1997 puts paid to that lie also.

As for your continuing contempt of the electorate... you ought to try appealing to them, rather than dismissing them. Hard to win elections if you ignore or annoy the people who have to vote for you, isn't it?

He would romp home in another snap election ... what with attracting all the Brexiteers to go with his gullible army he would be unbeatable.

Jim, // And he was described as unelectable, and despite the loss leading Labour to their largest vote share since 1997 puts paid to that lie also.//

Population 1997: 58 million – Labour 13m votes.

Population 2017: 65 million.-Labour 12m votes.

So not that brilliant really then.

//As for your continuing contempt of the electorate... you ought to try appealing to them, rather than dismissing them.//

Why would I bother? I perceive them as a needy bunch who want whatever they can get for nothing and throw tantrums when they don’t get their own way.
Labour MPs had nothing to lose (except a crappy shadow post) by supporting Ummmmuna's amendment calling for a 'soft' Brexit.

But while the Tory Party is also split (two thirds were remainers in the referendum), they are not stupid enough to support a vote which might hasten a general election, and them possibly losing their seat.

So Tory self interest and greed were the real winners of the day.
Corbyn is just Derek Hatton (Militant 70s and 80s) with a more appealing nature. Stalinist underneath. Those old enough to remember the disgusting way his and his cohorts ran Liverpool and attempted to gain control of the Labour Party will understand. They were held in contempt by all Parties, including most in the Labour Party. Corbyn's own press officer was, until December last year, a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain (which actually promotes North Korea as a workers' paradise). And, incredibly, he is an avowed Stalinist. Momentum are are sick, twisted, anti-democratic thugs, their mission made all the easier by the gullible, those not old enough to know better and the downright thick.
And, in 1982, not only did Corbyn oppose the expulsion of Militant members from the Labour Party but the 'anti-witch-hunt' campaign against expulsions by Militant was based at his address. It is relevant because Corbyn keeps saying that his views over the years have been consistent. I agree.
