While physical attacks of any sort should be condemned and punished, did this thug deserve imprisonment?
Interesting to note that it is reported that he was jailed for racially aggravated assault and then later the police vowed to crack down on race hate attacks.
Muslims are not a race.

The question was: 'Does he deserve imprisonment '? The fact is that many crimes would merit imprisonment . However, the prison capacity is bulging. Is this not an example of a case where a short, sharp, shock can be applied without the need to swell the numbers further?

/// I don't think AOG sounds like he sympathises with this thug at all, to be honest. ///
Thank you sp, but there are some on here who like to interpret what I put in a way that is completely different to what I actually put, but then I suppose it amusers their simple little minds.
/// Or in that case, someone who just 'looked' Muslim. ///
Regards the Indian chappy you said that he was Hindu, I don't think Hindus look like Muslims.

AOG,
You posted questioning whether the sentence was too long.
You may have been playing Devil's Advocat, but it seems fair that some people interpreted your question as supporting the view that it was too severe.
If you just wanted to test other contributors views on the sentence, why didn't you just ask "Is the 6 months sentence an appropriate punishment? " then people could have agreed or disagreed. But you used a leading question, hoping for answers that supported that the sentence is too harsh.

Gromit
I've done it again, so sorry Gromit, I must come to you before I construct my headlines.
But to you and all those others, my headline was based not on the fact that I support this thug, but because we have seen much more serious crimes get away with much less harsher sentences.
Being a supporter of a level playing field, I suspect that if this case hadn't involve the Muslim element the sentence would have been much less.

Far to long IMO.
Muslims have got off a lot lighter, if none, for their aggressive behavior in the past on marches, with racial outburst, and violance etc.
The reason the courts give these harsh sentences to non Muslims, is they think it will stop any more trouble, but in fact it makes matters worse, as the British people will not keep putting up with it, and retaliate.
Another reason is, these judges dont have to live in the neighbourhoods where Muslim family's with lots of kids, who receive free housing & benefits.
We have never had this kind of problem in the UK before, until the Government started letting them in, and it will only get worse in the future.
Wake up people.
