Its not often that I post in news but this piqued my interest
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37364079
I was reading my local newspaper which has reported that there have been 30 cases of FGM in Stoke on Trent in the last year. In the comments, someone wrote that there have been no convictions for it since the law against it was bought out so I googled it thinking that SURELY the commentator was wrong. He wasn't.
If I damaged someones person I would be behind bars faster than Billy Whizz on speed. (And I have been....for a lot less)
So why no convictions for such a horrible crime?

I think if a child is found to have had GM then the parents would be prosecuted because they have either arranged for it to be done or at the very least known about it and didn't stop it. For me, it's that simple.

//If you don't want to derail your own thread, don't throw out defamatory and untrue accusations. //

There you go again Andy, I make a thread re: FGM and you have to get a little dig in there. Look Andy, I'm not derailing my own thread, YOU are, gettit?
Leave me alone now and let others comment as they please.
(oh, I forgot, you can remove this thread if it doesn't agree with you)
Stop been a control freak m8,,,btw, that offer of a coffee is still on ;-)
I can think of no reason to disagree LB, the other way hasn't made a mark has it?
Nailit/Andy, I know it's none of my business - but one of you must stop these accusations or go through the proper channels and the other should stop responding to them.

It is getting beyond tedious for the rest of us.

Mamy, AH is a mod im not. Nuff said.
Mamya I meant to put "should" not would. And No I can't think of another way. I think once a few parents have been prosecuted, and dealt with severely, then others might think twice about allowing it to happen to their child.
I was hoping to hear Nailit's thoughts on my suggestion.
I understood you LB.

Nailit, you have channels to complain, we all do.
I'm quite shocked to find that I agree with Kavaladir - but I do feel that a swoop and a lot of prosecutions at once may bring the message home sooner that this is against the law in this country and may not be done - or assisted. Like it or not, recognised victims must have cases brought on their behalf if they are British citizens. Are we a civilised country or not?
Question Author
ladybirder, indeed I agree with you 100%.
Unfortunatly AH has derailed this thread already with his own agenda.
But YES, 100% agree
OK thanks Nailit.

//Nailit, you have channels to complain, we all do//
Yeah, 'course we do.
Like complaining to the ipcc about the police (which is basically the police investigating the police,,,bit pointless....I know, ive done it)
nailit - //waits for AH to start threatening me with suspension, bans and removal of posts again* //

Your unprovoked and off-topic post - who do you think is derailing?

Once again, for the umpteenth time, I as a Moderator am not permitted to remove posts or threads on a whim, just if they break Site Rules - which your attack did, but since I am also not permitted to remove posts which attack me personally, it remains unless another Mod or the Ed takes it out, which will be nothing to do with me.

Please don't attack me.

Please don't call me a liar.

Please understand the rules under which Moderators operate.
Thank you.

Offer of a coffee????

Seriously??????????
Oooooh and the sky hasn't fallen Jourdain2 :) It seems to me a very simple thing, as Ladybirder etc said the child's parents are obviously aware of it or have arranged it so good place to start is there.
Jourdain, // Are we a civilised country or not?//

We are a civilised country but we’re importing an uncivilised culture and erroneously assuming that, since it is peopled by human beings, it shares an equally civilised and rational mindset. Even though it is fashionable to defend the ‘rights’ of the uncivilised, we’re now finding that we must pick which bits of their culture they may practice and which bits they may not - but until we say ‘No’ to all of it, what we decide is unacceptable will not make an iota of difference to those entrenched, from birth, in their uncivilised beliefs.

No convictions ? I guess it can't be happening. Many unsubstantiated cases then.

Could you both stop being 'last word Larrys maybe?' If either of you is right about the other it seems plain as day that the other won't shut up, so if you do, then the argument ends, no?
