Eu Citizens Rights Still Not Right According To Barnier
He wants EU citizens in the U.K. To have the same rights as British citizens in the EU.
So is he going to tell Trump that all EU citizens in the US must have the same rights as EU citizens in the EU and that he has to allow the ECHR to preside over the US?
I think not, so why should we allow it?

The offer the UK has made regarding the rights of EU citizens already here (and indeed those yet to come) is more than generous. It considerably exceeds anything that any reasonable country would expect. But the problem is the EU is not and never will be reasonable.

If you read the article that is not really what he said:-
//"The British position does not allow those persons concerned to continue to live their lives as they do today//.He is also saying that we must remain a participant of the ECHR which we have said we will leave. He is being as awkward as he can.

It's easy for the side who wants no change to offer no change. It's not a serious offer though as the side that wants change isn't going to settle for no change.
Clearly such an offer is unreasonable, as a blatant example, the European Court of Justice ECJ must NOT have jurisdiction to guarantee rights in the UK. One wonders why he wishes to cause problems, what is his hidden agenda ? What is he really angling for ?

dannyK13, yes I agree he is saying that the British position doesn't allow those already resident here to be treated as they were, instead they will be treated as other foreigners. It seems quite reasonable to me to let those here continue as they were, and in a reciprocal action, those Brits living in the EU continue as they were. Then change the rules for any newcomers.
This is how the deal making will go.
opening positions..
UK: We demand to retain all the benefits of being in the EU without actually being in it and having to follow any of the rules.
EU: We want everything to remain exactly as it is but for the UK to give us a billion pounds just for having the audacity to want to leave.
Final result (gawd knows how many years later):
Something in between.
