so much for the eu togetherness we are one policy...no one wants them basically, that sounds inhumane..but it's the truth and everyone knows it, so what the cure, err ship them back to ? or enforce the you take them or else...i think merkels invite has turned sour, all welcome to the party..but bloody hell not that many, and thye keep arriving via a taxi service..

I have been advocating, since the beginning of this "crisis", that the problem that needed to be addressed was not what to do with the arrivals but to actually stop them arriving. European nations (including the UK) have been involved in an exercise that provides free ferry services from a few miles off the North African coast to Italy. Incredible as it may seem, tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people are queuing up to take advantage of this scheme.

A photo taken a couple of years ago on HMS Bulwark in the Med showed her decks full of "rescued refugees" - all in their Sunday best!!
The RN's biggest ship, the Ocean, has decommissioned after only 18 years - perhaps we can sell it to Greenpeace or the like to really improve the ferry service. They could run it direct from somewhere on the gold coast to save all these folk the bother of travelling up Africa, 5000 a time easily......

Just a threat at the moment, but shows the foolishness of allowing access to one country giving the option to have access to all.

Italy's nuclear option should instead revolve around sending folk south, not north, then sending the EU the bill for keeping the EU invasion free.

I have always thought the obvious and these migrants are just looking for a better life than they have in their own country. Wouldn't anyone if they see the land of milk and honey just a hop, skip and a jump across the water.

I (((might))) feel differently about their polite if they were truly destitute and on the seat of their pants but the vast majority pay a handsome fee to be ferried over with the intention of being the trail blazer for their extended family. For once they have been accepted they then use all the human rights legislation to bring them over as well.

It must be hard, even for the armed forces, to turn boat loads of people away with the thought they might not make it back so picking them up ends up being the only option. You simply can't let them drown.

No one should be allowed to settle if they have arrived by illegal means. Confiscate the boats, arrest and if appropriate, deport the owners and simply take them back to the post or closest area they came from. There will come a point they use up all their money on each attempt.
