Or are the Left and some of the press responsible for destroying the very special relationship that this country once had with the most powerful country in the world?

there was never a special relationship except in the minds of the British. America's only special relationship is with Israel.
I will be astounded if Mrs May can fix any sort of welcome for him.
Even if he has managed to survive impeachment by then he will be in for a huge amount of protest, and will richly deserve all of it!
It's also unlikely that May will still be PM by the time Trump visits!

Try telling that to those of us who lived through WW2, without our American friends, we would have starved and also lost the war.

You leffties can but hope.
usual anti British cobblers from jno I see.
She can't 'fix' one for herself so I seriously doubt it, and we have never had a special relationship ( it was in US interests to turn up, and we paid for it during the war), it's all in the minds of the right wing little Englanders.
no doubt the great unwashed will be spitting the dummy out.
She can't fix it for people to change their views of him , she could get in some paid extras to raise a cheer and maybe curfews and cordons to keep the dissenters away.

I don't envy her the task and I certainly don't wish to see ugly scenes on the streets either.

Bring out the Boris water cannons I say, perhaps the President will then see what we think of the great unwashed.
Make sure he has one of those waterproof hair covers though, in case of splashing.

No it isn't, but it is in the minds of proud English Men & Women.

But then for some strange reason I don't think you are of these shores and therefore show no elegance to this once great nation, except enough to come here to reap the benefits.

Ignore that if I am wrong, then I will just put you down as a Left-Wing, anti-English person.
It won't be the right wing little Englanders making a mockery of democracy will it.

'he will be in for a huge amount of protest, and will richly deserve all of it!'

Strewth!
Here's a novel idea: why not just invite Trump for a normal visit. If Trump doesn't want to come because he's too conceited to countenance his reputation suffering because of a few protests then tough. I find that story hard to believe, however.
The UK and the US DO have a special relationship, largely based on intelligence sharing, and that relationship will survive the Trump interregnum, as I posted once before I believe.
give yourself BA afor your post at 14:36 AOG. Standard Sour grape rhetoric from the anti democracy kvalidir.
Well you're wrong there AOG. My father is Irish but my mother's family came to England with the Conqueror, so we've been here a while, quite long enough to consider ourselves English in any event. We are all custodians of our country and must do what is earnestly in our hearts and minds the best thing for the country as a whole, not for one tiny proportion who feel they are entitled to represent the rest of us by virtue of their colour, gender, sexuality or class. I am perfectly happy to be openly left wing, but don't accuse me of disliking England, it's a great place, I'd just like it to remain as such, and not descend into a quagmire of elite isolationism.
Can Theresa May Fix A Warm Uk Welcome For President Trump?

No. It's not within her power.

It's literally an impossible task, unless she somehow manages to get him from the airport to all official functions without letting him anywhere near the public.
Mr. Trump should be given a warm welcome, no matter what people may think of him and his policies. He is the President of the U.S.A., one of our oldest allies and a country which is very important to our trade. Many, many Americans are descended from British ancestors, I and others have American cousins. Do the weirdos not understand these very simple facts? America is a friend and we need to keep hold of our friends. Grow up - there are relatives you don't approve
of, but they are family (therefore important) and you rub along with them.

The family analogy doesn't quite work.

Relatives who constantly say things at functions that upset other family members eventually end up excluded from barbecues, weddings and christening.

Most people know of a family member who is so unpopular that they barely get a handful of people show up at their funerals.

Such is life.

...but rather than protest against Trump, I think a much better way of showing one's feeling would be to completely ignore his visit.

Let those who value him as President turn up waving flags.

It would be incredibly interesting to see the numbers.
Theresa can't even fix a warm welcome for herself. She and her entire cabinet know she is only still leader of her party because it would cause the 'Brexit' negotiations to collapse if there was a leadership election. As soon as 'Brexit' is over, one way or the other she is OUT!!
There is no way she can continue after her disastrous decision to call an early general election. She has single handedly ensured that Labour will win the next election.
