It is.
It is sad, but why are the protesters having a go at the judge. The American specialist declined to take on the case.
Question Author
some folk just like to protest, I guess.
Just watching the BBC News channel now, with a tear in my eye.
What a heartbreaking decision for them to have to come to.

Although some of those protestors were vile. Some I accept were peaceful and supportive. Others were just thugs dressed up as "caring people".
Question Author
what got me in the article, was that the Specialist said it was too late for any treatment to be started.
Hasn't this case dragged on for more than 5 months?
Can't turn back time, but you can only wonder what might have been if they had been able to take him to the US at that time?
About time too, poor lad.
It's been a heartbreaking case, but I believe this is the correct outcome. Little Charlie can be allowed to die with dignity & his parents can remember him with love.

My heartfelt best wishes go to Charlie, his family & to the medical & legal personnel involved in such awful decisions every day.
I think the american might usefully kept his mouth shut

(too busy to read the notes earlier this year apparently)

it has become an abolute circus
Question Author
I hope his passing is pain-free.
Or as pain-free as can be.

Kingy, I agree with you, whole-heartedly.
they havent given up - the legal fight has come to an end and reached its conclusion (again!) i presume the specialist declined to treat him after he saw hom last week, so i dont understand why they waited till today, in the courts, to let the judge know this.. it seems a bit like they took one last chance to get the boot in too :(
Just heard his Dad on the radio....not a dry eye here either .....poor little mite.
I cannot imagine what his parents have been going through, to imagine what this poor child has gone through in his short life is well beyond me.

I hope this poor child is allowed to die with some dignity and his parents can move on from this tragic situation.
The parents have put themselves through this (and their son) by consistently refusing to believe what the professionals say.
I understand it is difficult to let go of a child, but this is the best outcome really. I am glad it will not go on any longer and Charlie can hopefully be at peace.

liK - agree wholeheartedly with your post.
Hopkirk, professionals have been known to disagree, or just plain get it wrong. The's why the concept of getting a second opinion exists, after all. In their position, who wouldn't be desperate to find a professional who thought something could be done?
the proper and only decision possible to give this poor child a dignified end... tragic beyond words but the parents ,understandably, pushed far too long as this was clearly the inevitable ,and best, outcome for all... let the wee chap go now... God bless him.....
Believing the professionals isn't always a good idea, Hopkirk......I fought for an experimental treatment for my husband's donated kidney......
The doctor's said there was no hope......my instinct said there was....I won (to shut me up probably).... and MrG ended up with a fully functioning donated kidney.....and this has probably helped many with kidney failure now......

Sometimes you just know.....

I'm not in a position to comment on all the details of this sad case......maybe I would have done what the parents tried to do...maybe not.....but I wish them well......x

ok, so this american was hanging out a branch of hope and then reneges on it, I guess nowt that he could do - but it will be perceived as a waste of time, resources and has prolonged the agony.

However, what has been despicable is the way the public has gone after Great Ormond St staff and even the parents over this, some appalling messages. They should be hanging their heads in shame at the very least.
To much time wasted in court the last few weeks, and red tape.
