Do you think that Vanessa Feltz and Claudia Winkleman are two of the top-earning women at the BBC because they are Jewish?

Or is this a tired stereotype that shouldn't have made it past the sub editor's desk?

I'm going for the latter.

I honestly don't know the reason but I do know they are overpaid.

Well, exactly. Surely it's whichever editor ok'd the piece that needs sacking. Journalists don't just post articles willy nilly like it's twitter or facebook. They effectively submit them to the newspaper for consideration, and it's the newspaper that decides whether to publish them or not.
I think he's one of those people paid to peddle stereotypes, but went too far for the readership this time.

Odd, because he's previously acknowledged being a Holocaust denier; but presumably readers were okay with that. So how's an editor to know?

I'm with Talbot.

I never knew they were Jewish, and quite frankly I don't care.

Glad the git got the boot tho.
It is just coincidence that these two hugely talented women are jewish. They are a great asset to their faith and richly deserve as much tax payer money that we are able yo throw at them.
Sounds like Kevin was ready for new pastures to me.
What idiot let such an antisemetic piece of badly written rubbish get in the paper in the first place?
What does it matter what these ladies get paid? Its a fraction of what the men get paid.
Glad he got the sack, stupid man!
I didn't know they were Jewish - never gave it any thought.

I admit that I don't like either of them - and it's not because of their gender or religion. They, in my opinion, are talentless.
I quite like them both, don't care that they're Jewish, what they earn is none of my business & good riddance to bad rubbish.

The problem is Jewish people have been know to 'look after their own' so it is not entirely unreasonable to suggest it. We should not be immediately playing the race card because someone raises an issue. What we should expect though is some proof of the accusation and, as yet,I dont think any has been forthcoming.

"look after their own"? are you suggesting the BBC is Jewish? Part of a conspiracy or something? What a strange suggestion.
I thought the BBC was run. Y liberal lefties? Not the Jewish mafia!
/// "As the editor of the Ireland edition, I take full responsibility for this error of judgement. ///

Then he should be sacked also, easy to take action and also apologise after some have complained.

Just another case of being seen to take action, whilst still retaining his own position.

Yes, it does seem a bit strange to sack somebody else for something that you take full responsibility for.
Kevin Myers is a pompous git, has been on tv in the past presenting programs and he has always come across as looking down his nose and pre-judging folk, I don't read the Times, I have often seen his columns though and he is well overdue a sacking. This payment issue was about gender not creed and he shouldn't have added that to the mix as it's no one's business.
jno, it does not have to be the company/corporation only the person in charge as I am sure you could well work out.

And it does happen, I have had first hand experience of it.
