I guess the bird flu epidemic will peak in time for christmas. So will Abers in the UK still have turkey for christmas? I was always a beef roast man and gave up on turkeys years ago. What about you. Will you be afraid to eat turkey.

We have goose these days, bought in the village where I live direct from the farm, so if they're still selling I'm still buying! We did have beef one year, none of us really like turkey, find it a bit dry and as we all eat chicken all year round now (unlike when I was a child when chicken was dear) it's not really that much of a treat. Had one memorable Christmas when one child had chicken pox and couldn't go down to the in-laws as planned as sister-in-law would be there with her kids, one of them about 11 months old so couldn't go 'till Boxing Day. Christmas Eve found me down at Asda where I bought rump steak for myself and Mr Spudqueen and chicken nuggets for the kids (I asked them what they wanted and they chose them as I never buy them!). Seemed pointless buying anything like a turkey as we were going away boxing day!

last year i was in hospital managed to get them to let me home for the day but had nothing in the house as we were going to go to mother-in-laws but was too far away from the hospital so hubby rushed down the supermarket and the 4 of us shared a weeny chicken best xmas ever, this year were going to my brothers and having a giant supersized turkey mmmmm!

I personally like lamb better than turkey, turkey is very dry, maybe thats just the way my mum cooks it! but still not that keen.

Can't bear turkey or anything that has had feathers on it.My dad used to keep chickens and ducks and they were always killed for the table.One particular duck was a great pet of mine and although father warned me not to get too attached to it....I did.It was killed for the table and needless to say I refused to eat it..in fact none of us did and my poor old Dad
had cold duck sandwiches until about February !!

the good news is if the winter is as bitterly cold as they're predicting it'll probably kill off the birds and the viruses. So Dom Tuk if you find frozen turkeys dropping down into your back garden it's probably safe to eat them.

I'll be eating turkey - heck yeah!

During the beef crisis I ate ONLY British beef (I mean I ate other stuff too, but if it was beef, it HAD to be British)... and I turned out pretty sane I'm sure you'll all agree! :-p :-)

Seriously though, I'm not going to contribute to the further demise of British farming just becasue of a media scare!

I thought one of the points of COOKING is to kill off most bacteria and the like...... Can't see a flu virus lasting long at 180 degrees (or whatever roast turkey is cooked at!).

We're at home this time round (just my wife, daughter and I) so I might get a pheasant from the local poacher.

OBonio - this makes me wonder if we girls/ladies/women shouldn't just shove the men/chaps/blokes in our lives in the oven when they start whinging about "flu".  As we all know "bloke flu" is a hell of a lot worse than "bird" flue anyway! LOL

Perhaps, rather than just reprting them all, I should point out that comments about "live" criminal cases are against the rules for AB.  Therefore "amusing" comments about any footballers and any birds at the moment are not wise.  I personally really like this site, and I don't want to see the Ed or the Monks getting into trouble, or worse still, the site being pulled. 

Therefore people, please resist the comments about the Man Utd and Portugal player as it could potentially ruin it for all of us. 

Dom Tuk - sorry about that, but had already reported one, purely cos I like the site so much.  I just thought it easier to save ABE a little job and point out the rules!

I'll smack my dad if he doesn't roast a goose or duck this Christmas. My parents get it fresh 10 minutes from where they live and it's just yummy. I've always thought it so weird to have turkey for christmas, I've never even seen a whole turkey, only filets and stuff. Oh joy to those small/big differences! Merry Christmas everyone :0)

Would it be very wrong of me to ask what on earth bug and Abe is on about? If someone can tell me without making any jokes...
