Blackpool. I had the misfortune to have to attend a 4 day conference there, in 1995 and it was the pits. The Trams were lovely, but the rest was bloody awful....wall to wall tat and drunks.

I can't see why Yorkshire (as a whole) should be mentioned above. It's got some stunningly beautiful areas (particularly in North Yorkshire) but even the less attractive places (such as Sheffield) are worth visiting simply because of the warmth of the welcome you'd get.

I can partly understand why Hastings get a mention but I have to assume that Sp1814 isn't familiar with the Old Town area, at the eastern edge of the town; it's worth visiting.

Hands off Notlob! Hasn't every place got good and bad, there are some very nice, and relatively expensive, parts of Hull. When this kind of topic comes up I always hear in my head Tony Hancock in the Blood Donor, We're not all Rob Roys.

Jaywick is definitely 'a bit of a dump', and there are a few areas which I feel uncomfortable visiting, but it's got a certain 'shabby charm' to it, a lovely beach and a good community spirit. I liked it as a kid (when my grandparents lived there) and I still enjoy visiting it now.

Have been to Paris, Madrid, Edinburgh (Edinburgh lots of times to see England routinely best Scotland) Berlin, Budapest, Bogata, Santiago, Washington, Warsaw, Rome, Athens, Moscow to name a few, which is why I feel I am able to make an informed comment.

I agree with you DD. And I've been to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Budapest, Krakow, Amsterdam, New York, San Fran, San Diego, Las Vegas, Aarhus, Amiens, York, and even Hull!
