Good speech - what's wrong with America first and all that, and the UN is a hopeless expensive talking shop. Though he drags in the old chestnut of the Marshal Plan, which was not an act of pure generosity, but a hard-headed business deal, with all European countries paying back with interest.
Wow. Very statesman like.
I think it was outstanding.

What I wish is that the UK had some politicians who were prepared to put the needs and requirements of UK citizens first and foremost in everything they do. Our politicians are too much like diplomats. We have diplomats to do the diplomacy, we need leaders who will lead in our best interests without worrying about what foreigners (particularly those at the UN) might think of us.

I only heard an abridged version of Mr Trump’s speech but I assume what I heard was supposed to be the most “controversial”. That is, he vowed to put the USA and its allies first and foremost and that he threatened to wipe out North Korea should it damage the USA or any of its allies. I couldn’t give a toss about North Korea provided it keeps itself to its wretched self. But with the lunatic currently in charge (who will no doubt be replaced by another lunatic should anything happen to him) that seems in doubt. Therefore he needs to be in no doubt what the consequences of his lunacy will be.
Yes.....very good, shooting from the hip, said it all, no bullsh.1.t and for me he is growing into the position of President of the United States.
He is different, you either like him or you don't. I quite understand that..........time will tell whether he has been a successful President.
NJ, I wrote on another thread

'I'm not sure it's a time for diplomacy at the moment. It's more time for someone who tells it like it is without shilly-shallying around'

it seems we are in-synch today.
I actually found myself saying (when discussing Trumps validity as POTUS with friends) that with the N Korea situation, maybe he's come along at exactly the right time.

I was shocked.
Quite! About time someone stood up to that crazy fat git with the funny haircut. I read this earlier which is quite informative but also quite horrific.

Boris Johnson's in charge of North Korea?
Ha, bleeding ha!
Erm, douglas, me old pal. Come over here in this quiet corner, and we'll have a little talk about the political birds and bees. All right?

We have the president of the US apparently arguing for genocide.
The big hope has to be it's just another rant from the fool on the hill, but the problem with all this is that it is easy for tin pot dictators like Kim, Maduro, Putin, or the shadowy mullahs of Iran to sound plausible when they criticise him
Did he use shorthand, because it looks a lot more than 140 characters to me !

This is twitter un-style :-)
I guess he wrote it himself?
Ich....how do you equate the speech with calling for genocide?

(my Gawd I'm defending The Donald).
Itchy....Trump could barely write a laundry list.
It's decades, if not centuries, since political leaders wrote their own speeches. Let's keep it real.

(There i go again.....aaaaargh)
^Haaaaaaaaa! It had to happen .... eventually. ;o)
Ok Naomi. My pants are down. Spank away.

"Ich....how do you equate the speech with calling for genocide?
"

Well little things like destroying North Korea for example :-)
Yes I know he isn't, but therefore he shouldn't say it. People just stop listening in the end.
People will love him for putting his country first. Making him stronger than others.

Leaders will silently admire but publicly condemn him. Leaders have become scared diplomats to afraid of the fickle public.

The populace wants protection but they don't want 'our boys' in danger. Death in war has become a dirty blame fest. Accusations abound and ambulance chasers profit in war.

If there is an escalation with NK he will be blamed whatever the outcome. Even if he does not use first strike and only retaliates he will be blamed for saying it like it is. Forget one of the most dangerous rouge nations is gathering the ultimate weapons. The rest of the world is frightened into inactivity.
