This is a bit of a convoluted story, but the gist seems to be that the Department of Justice is really going for this:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-gay-sacked-fired-offence-homosexuality-doj-justice-department-a7969601.html

Why? Surely this doesn’t sit right with most people, no matter what their political persuasion.

Is there anyone on AB who thinks this is justified? Or reasonable? Or..,not mental?

Not me.
Utterly bonkers.
In the British Navy it is even worse. You get the sack for being "straight". "In The Navy"...... you can live your life "at ease" In the navy.....

One has to wonder how this will work practically.

If gay people can be sacked, what about bisexuals? Will they be forced to work part time?

And God only knows how the vetting process is supposed to work.
daft, but that's Trump's America.
have you ever stayed at the YMCA togo?
Trump seems to be caught in some sort of time warp.

Years ago I watched a TV documentary about military police. They hounded some sailor and he was thrown out of the Navy for being gay. I was pretty annoyed/upset that this could happen. It looks like the bad old days could be back.
I wouldn't necessarily believe everything (well, anything) you read in The Independent.
There's a reason it's a failed newspaper.
Sometimes a sigh and a shake of the head is the only response you can make, that's where I am just now.
Trump's America is the bad old days.
Spicerack, happy to read the real story if this is incorrect.
Judges in the Second Circuit court appeared unimpressed by the DOJ’s entry in the case, with Judge Rosemary Pooler describing it as “a little bit awkward” for government agencies to be on opposing sides.

Has Trump taken a side?
Lol 3T, No but have stayed at Youth Hostels. Can' stay long. I'm watching US v John Lennon, Sky Arts. SP once expressed a desire to be in the Village People...... is all.
I have stayed at YMCA hostels several times, they have male and female dormitories now. Don't know what transsexuals do.
I know you anti-Trumpers won't like it but it's a lot more complicated than Trump being a homophone.
This chap was sacked for groping a female 'pupil'.
His defence was 'Can't sack me, I'm gay'
Several courts appear to have ruled against him.
This will probably go to the supreme court.
I don't know, I know as much as you, but maybe the DOJ don't want this case to set THE precedent.
Ie. everyone who gropes a female colleague can use the ' Can't sack me, I'm gay' defence.
ermmm it "homophobe" unless Trump is sound that is identical to another sound
^ groping a pupil should be a sackable offence no matter what the sexual orientation of the people involved. Why the inverted commas around pupil by the way?

You're right - it is a lot more than just the Zarda case, I was shaking my head at the whole thing.

Thanks for that link Jack.
What utter nonsense. How can this even be an issue for any company let alone a government body.

What has a persons sexuality to do with work?

I suppose there is a clause in contracts that says something about conduct and bringing the company into disrepute but that should surely when something happens not 'just' because of their sexuality.
