Sir Edward Heath Abuse Claims
http:// www.bbc .co.uk/ news/uk -415031 43
"Sir Edward Heath would have been questioned over sex abuse claims if he was alive when they came to light, police have said"
"No inference of guilt should be drawn from this fact, police stressed"
Well....that's OK then isn't it ?

Totally agree with andy at 14:45 and 14:47. Shouldn't be brushed under the carpet just because he's dead.

yes, it's okay. There are questions he might have been asked, and he might have been able to clear his name instantly.
There are allegations, from a Tory MP, that people have been trying to smear the police carrying out the inquiry.

Where the police have specific allegations they are duty bound to investigate. Part of the process of assessing hcaimvad, is to hear Heath's side of the story.
// Main points from the Operation Conifer report:
In the case of seven individual disclosures, if Sir Edward Heath had been alive he would have been interviewed under caution in order to obtain his account in relation to the allegations made against him.
The disclosures where Heath would have been interviewed under caution to gain an account are:
1961: Heath allegedly raped and indecently assaulted an 11-year-old boy during a paid sexual encounter in a private dwelling. London.
1962: Heath in the company of an unknown male allegedly indecently assaulted a 10-year-old boy during a chance encounter in a public place. Kent.
c1964: Heath allegedly indecently assaulted a 15-year-old male during three paid sexual encounters. Sussex and London.
1967: Heath allegedly indecently assaulted a 15-year-old male not known to him in private during a chance encounter in a public building. Guernsey.
1976: Heath allegedly indecently assaulted over clothing an adult male during a chance encounter at a public event. Jersey.
c1992: Heath allegedly indecently assaulted an adult male after consent was withdrawn in what had been a paid consensual sexual encounter in a hotel. Wiltshire.
Between 1990 and 1992: Heath allegedly indecently assaulted a boy aged between 12 and 14 not known to him during a chance encounter in private gardens. Wiltshire. The report said he would have been interviewed under caution over this allegation, BUT there is undermining evidence. //
Not sure why this is still going on with Heath and many of his accusers, dead ?

Because it is a witch-hunt. Plod, having been stung by Saville (another dead person not proven) have been chasing more people of note who are dead and cannot defend themselves. I dont think this is anything political since they have gone for people of all political stances.
The money would be far better spent chasing current paedophiles who are currently abusing kids.

I disagree. If allegations are brought to the police, they are duty-bound to investigate them, as they have done, and they have found that Sir Edward would have had questions to answer had he been alive.
His death does not mean that any potential victims are not entitled to have their case heard correctly with due legal process.

Gulliver - when a friend is accused of something you are absolutely sure they have not done, the instinct is vigorously to defend their reputation, especially if they are not around to do so for themselves.
If that friend is a respected public figure, the sense of outrage at perceived smears on their character leads to ever more intense defence from friends and admirers.
From indirect personal experience, watching my wife fight for her professional reputation when investigating physical abuse claims against a much loved teacher in her school, I know just how intense such defence can be, with howls of disbelief that anyone could even think such a thing, and how 'evil' anyone must be to believe such accusations.
I also know from sight of evidence, that such claims can be true, however seemingly unbelievable they may appear, and friends would wish them to be.
When people say Friend X 'would never ... ', sadly they are deluding themselves. Anyone could, given the circumstances, no-one is ever immune simply because they are perceived as 'not the type'.

both deserve investigation under the law.
nope allegations against dead people ( including war crimes)should NOT be a function of the police as nothing can be done
as for we should hear Heaths side of it
I think he's dead gromit .....
David mellor has an axe to grind
yup
he was honey trapped in the Antonia ( everyone thinks I am a prostitute but I am not) Sanchez case
Tonia was in the media a few months ago saying she was a victim as well ....

I agree with hereIam at 16:19.
If we hadn't had that long enquiry after the death of Savile, we wouldn't know about the appalling catalogue of errors made about him over the 50 years that he abused his victims. Just because someone is dead, has nothing to do with getting to the truth.
I don't know if Heath was guilty of not, but a sure-fire way of continuing not to know, is not to do any investigating.
As regards the cost of investigating, perhaps if there weren't 20,000 fewer Police Officers around now, than there was in 2010, we might not be finding the resource so difficult ?
