My friend and I txt most days. As you all know it's been quite a week - I've been to court to see my son sent to prison, one of my other son's gf has finished with him out of the blue after 9 years(they've been together since 16) and he has completely gone to pieces so we've been trying to console him and find him somewhere to stay, my daughters been at breaking point with her 3 yr olds tantrums( yes I've witnessed them and god this child could out tantrum anyone!!) and then yesterday Mr Smow fell through the loft hatch of house we are renovating! Bruised and bloodied.
So on top of all this she didn't even txt me on court day - which was fine as I was all over the place. I get a txt the next day asking why I was so quiet! I reply that I'd been in court with son. Didn't get asked what happened. Then all of the above happened. Then I drove 130 miles home yesterday afternoon. Sit down finally and get another txt saying " we don't seem to talk like we used to and what's my problem"
. Sorry but I saw red. I replied stating all of the above and ended with fact that she didn't even bother to ask how court went and that she was being very petty when I had so much on my plate. Wish I hadn't sent it now but I have and can't take it back. Oh poop........

I wouldn't worry, Smow. If she's a true friend, she won't be offended by the text.
If she's a friend, she will understand. If she doesn't, then that's her problem.

I've said things straight out that later on I wished I'd kept my mouth shut Smow, a lot agree with what I have said but never the guts to say it themselves, a true friend will always come back to youx
Hi Smow, if she already had an idea of some of the stuff you were going through, then she should realise. Don't worry about it. Sometimes it's good to off load what we're feeling.
Pick up the phone and call her - and just say sorry but I was at the end of my wits as you can well imagine - I bet she apologises for not picking up the signals - and then arrange a meet even if it just for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
Smow, has she text you since?
why not text and say you are sorry ?
if she doesnt want to be offended it is easy to say 'never mind - you were having a bad day'

and never txt - - - shouldnt that be "nevuh txt"
Smow, its times like this you find out who your friends are. You hardly have the energy to massage her ego with everything thats going on in your life right now. I say give her a wide berth for now. If she comes to you with more of a supportive attitude then great, but if she doesn't then you know what calibre of friend she is deep down.

Nope she's not txt me since. I did follow up with a txt saying look sorry, but it's been a pretty *** week but she still didn't really. And yes I know that picking up the phone is the answer- we all rely too much on texts these days and they can be read the wrong way.
You've been more than generous.
Ive had 'friends' like that in the past Smow. To not even enquire after your son, knowing that you had been in court with him, stinks. All the friends I have now always show some interest in my own child (and therefore my life) and I in theirs. I got rid of the ones who turned out to be totally self absorbed and that includes members of my family. I would have done EXACTLY what you have done.

Ahh bless you. Am sorry but my family is my priority and not a ' friend' who constantly needs emotional propping up. It's my sons birthday today and he's locked up in a prison cell and I feel so so sad... I've emailed him yesterday and today so he has something to read and I've bought him a load of books from a local book shop which I know I'm allowed to bring when I visit him.
Is it too early for wine???
(I'm joking!!)
And that's exactly where you should focus your energy Smow, take care x
Never too early for wine ;-)
Smow, it's practically tomorrow in Fiji and they've got the kava out, so I don't see why you shouldn't get the Cava out.

But I agree with all those who say texting isn't a way to communicate when you really need to talk.
On the same lines as you Smow, I have been there for SO-CALLED Friends when they needed someone, been there when they have wanted help, be it the home / car / garden, It's surprising the things they HAD TO DO if I needed help ( which is not that often, I don't know you that well but I hope things work out well for you, take care. Righty ho! So shall we all raise a virtual glass to Smows locked up son on his 24th birthday today?? Xx
I'll have half a Guiness later, Smow, and toast your son. As for wine, when not in a certain condition, I've been known to have my first glass on a Sunday at 11:45am if I'm slaving over the stove ;-)
I'll drink to that Smow, but it'll have to be tea for me because I'm still on the wagon :-)
I spent my 28th birthday in clink. My cell mate bought me a kit kat and a spliff.
