one year of mourning was announced after His Majesty died, hence waiting one year before His Majesty meets his makers on the pyre.

*oo-er

No idea how that happened....
Crikey that's a lot of mourning - i didn't realised he was so loved
beeb presenter drenched in black
clearly not wishing to express himself on that day by perhaps going out in a Ronald McDonald clowns outfit

didja see the whole population "taking the knee"
not one person saying
" if you take da knee - give dem da P60s and geddem artta here!"

when in Rome - or Bangkok - oh that reminds me - did the thai ladies of the night take the day off ?
They are really loyal to their royal family.
Any disrespect or criticism towards members of the Royal Family in Thailand can land you with up to 15 years in jail.
My goodness, PP, do you ever take a day off from posting utter rubbish?!
Priceless!
the king was around longer than QE2 (so far), much loved, partly for religious reasons, partly because as the country is run by some fairly dreadful politicians he's the only leader most people trust. And partly because if anyone doesn't like him it's wiser not to mention it if you value living at home.
PP - I'd love to live inside your head for a day :-}
heard on the news this morning that his current Majesty isn't anything like his father and due to the rules the presenter/broadcaster couldn't say anything.

His late Majesty ruled (?) for 70 years and most of the population have only known him
Sawasee Krab, mikey! ((Trying to learn some polite Thai words.) Others have answered your question. I'm going in January, to visit an old school friend. She says she's sick to death of wearing black all this time. New King to be crowned in January - so I'm visiting at an interesting time.
“They are really loyal to their royal family.”

Is it real love and loyalty? I know that N Korea, Iraq, Libiya has many loyal followers until the followers escaped those countries and told the media it was fear, not loyalty
I dunno. I didn't ask every Thai person I came into contact with. According to the ones I socialised with and my aunt who lives there, it's loyalty.
I'll email my friend and ask her.
Lol @ PP. Then he's drenched in clack. Kno Kneed Ya Know. Lay de bhoys have a day orifice as well.
An evil genie captured a Thai princess and her two friends and banished them to the Gobi desert for a week. The genie allowed each person to bring one thing.

The first friend brought a canteen so she wouldn't die of thirst.

The second friend brought an umbrella to keep the sun off her.

The Thai princess brought a Mercedes car door, because if it got too hot she could just roll down the window!
Funny old world. Loyalty to Thai Royalty ....good.
Loyalty to UK Regent.........bad.
