I googled and as far as I can tell they have the death penalty for killing a police officer or committing murder whilst on a life sentence. Maybe federal laws applies in terrorism cases. Does that allow execution? This is not a debate about the rights and wrongs of executions.

What it means is that his possible martyrdom will be used as an incentive by his fellow extremists to whip up even further hatred of the west, possibly leading to further terrorism activities.
It would be great to be able to dismiss these people are mindless idiots, but it would be seriously foolish to do so, and that means that in my view, consequences of actions regarding their punishment have to be weighed carefully, and the simple expedient of execution, hands washed, is not a response to be undertaken lightly, simply because it addresses immediate emotional reactions.

TTT - // so he cannot be a martyr if he is tried and executed for murder not for his beliefs. QED Saddam Shuffle! //
As advised, the terrorists will do with the decision what they do with the Koran - twist it to suit their murderous purposes, so a matter of semantics will not stop them carrying on with more mayhem

If President Trump overrules the court and sanctions an execution, and there is a major terrorist incident as a direct result, then immediately, President Trump, followed by the victims who survive, followed by the families of all victims, living and dead, followed by the entire civilised world - will care considerably.

Sounds like what we need at these times is the Quran retranslated because if a simple misunderstanding is getting innocent people killed then who knows what other misunderstandings are turning normal people into Suicidal/homicidal serial killers, then saying that these people must have a screw loose anyways so would probably find any reason to kil others or, neighbours loud music, boss Who sacked them, teacher gave their kids detention etc...

andy-hughes, // it's entirely easy to see why the emotional response is to call for his execution//
What gives you the idea that that’s an emotional response? From my own point of view there’s no emotion whatsoever involved. It’s the sensible solution.
//the terrorists will do with the decision what they do with the Koran - twist it to suit their murderous purposes, so a matter of semantics will not stop them carrying on with more mayhem//
A death sentence will stop that particular terrorist – and any more like him - from carrying on with more mayhem. Incidentally, they don't 'twist' the Koran. It's all there. Read it.
