Poor debating skills from Harman, retelling a thirty year old joke from a student rag magazine. Not sure what point about anything, she was trying to make. And Neil was right to tell her off for presuming that he would have laughed at it.
Fortunately the old Blairites are being culled, and Harman does not have a place in the shadow cabinet, which is why she can do late night TV shows.

It's a poor way to make a point to tell an outrageous joke*, claim that the other guy would have made it and then get offended at the other guy finding it funny.

*I use the word "joke" in the broadest possible sense, here.

To be fair I think she was only trying to show the type of joke. The issue is here is yet another example of the left thinking they know what people are going to do even when the person has not said or done anything.

Gromit has done the same on another thread to me. The left again they think they know everything even our minds !!

Loads of Grenfell Tower and Weinstein jokes have done the rounds, it's called dark humour where anyone and anything is fair game. There's too many people living in internet bubbles where opinions are formed by the amount of cyber outrage that can be generated. They need to get out more and deal with real life, not pixels.

I don't think anything should be off limits in humour either -- but only with the right audience. I'll happily share the most outrageous and offensive jokes with my brother, Dad, a friend etc, but not with Mum, Gran or some other friends, because I know they wouldn't appreciate it so much.

It doesn't take long to discover that humour is subjective. Know your audience.

I can't stand this woman.

This was the woman who brought in the Equality Act, and yet without any sense of irony at all wanted women only short lists for Labour seats (not much equality about that!) and then parachuted Jack Dromey, her husband, into a safe Labour seat.

If ever there was an example of Labour's oft 'do as as I say not as I do' attitude this was it.

Horrible woman, so I'm chuffed she's been shown up the way she has.

However, that aside, I agree with Jim - humour is entirely subjective and I honestly don't think I've ever been offended by a joke...the darker the joke or more outrageous the better in my view if it's funny (Google Frankie Boyle on Mock The Week about the Diana benefit concert...one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard), but crucially, a joke needs to be told to the right audience - and Harman, even if being ironic, completely misjudged it.
