First we had Boris's stupid remarks a few days, for which he has yet to apologise. Now Gove "doesn't know why she was in Iran"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41960006

This poor woman is being held under appalling conditions, and has been for 19 months, and her case is not helped by these stupid, ignorant remarks by Ministers that should know better.

if a politician knows his words will imperil a British citizen abroad, he should keep his mouth shut. if a politician doesn't know what effect his words will have abroad, he should keep his mouth shut. Pretty basic stuff, really. Doesn't affect people on social media, who routinely don't know what they're talking about.

Hardly a trick question, was it?
judge: "But regretfully I feel that, family or not, it was hugely irresponsible to travel to such an unstable country with a young child." - as usual bang on, now if mikey can stop politicking for a minute he should give you BA!
//judge: "But regretfully I feel that, family or not, it was hugely irresponsible to travel to such an unstable country with a young child." //

She says she was on holiday in Iran so relatives could meet her young daughter.
Seems perfectly reasonable to me .

I don't see that her actions were 'hugely irresponsible' at all
It's not as if Iran is embroiled in civil war or something .
If it was Syria, that might be a valid arguement
Hang on,,, it's not Andrew marrs, fault now, it the woman in question who was at fault ?

TTT....this thread is about how Gove gave such a stupid answer, to a quite simple question, a question that Marr had every right to ask.

pick on Gove by all means mikey but the architect of this is this silly girl taking her child to a rogue state and getting herself in the s41. She was already in jail when Bojo opened his trap.
Mikey at 13:26, but he doesn't know - although he did add // there is no reason she should be in prison in Iran as far as any of us knows. No evidence has been produced which suggests she should be detained …. and I will take her husband’s assurance that she was on holiday. // (Or words to that effect).

Had he claimed to know for sure that what the husband says is factual and it later transpires that it isn't, you'd be baying for his blood for lying! None of us know, so I really don't see what alternative he had but to answer such a blunt question truthfully. Do you?

(Actually I was going to say "such a blunt and ill-timed question" - but I don't think the question was ill-timed. Going by many of the responses here I think it did exactly what it was designed to do).

Yes, you are right Naomi....the question exposed Gove up, for the pillock he really is.
Name-calling is always a poor argument, Mikey. What could he have said to satisfy you? Should he have chanced lying hoping his lie wouldn't be later exposed?
When will Cameron apologise?

Iran will believe what they want to believe and don't really care what any British politician says.
