Pixie - // I expect they will all rise in price- any excuse. It does seem to be nannying- and overtaxing addicts of any kind is immoral and unhelpful. //

'Nannying' tends to be the term used when the state is controlling something that people want to indulge in - even if it is bad for them, as individuals, and society as a whole.

I don't agree that taxing adults is immoral and unhelpful - it may prevent future addictions, and it does provide a level of control for addicts who, by definition, cannot control themselves.
If you had a drink Andy, you might be a bit less.......fractious.
pixie - // glass of wine is harmless though, Andy. There are always people who take things too far, but not everyone. //

Again, an argument used by the 'moderate' user of any drug.

I am sure there are millions of 'moderate' heroin users in the world, but society does not sanction free access to their drug of choice.

Society needs to be controlled for the benefit of all, and not reduced down to the level of the sensible moderate drug user.

I am not 'fractious', or 'preachy', but thanks anyway.

With my zero tolerance for alcohol, if I had a pint of anything, I would end up trying to take my trousers off over my head!!!
That isn't how you treat addictions. People should have choices- even unhealthy ones- and it's excess that is damaging.
Jesus. Have you heard yourself? If you carry on, the dictionary definition of sanctimonious will have your mug shot next to it.

I would like to see fast-food outlets forced to hike their prices by 500% because some people eat more than is good for their health.

And motorists- some drive too fast.
Exactly, where does it end?
When we're all bankrupt :-)
And locked in a cell all day to prevent us from the temptations of evil.

My reply was to T3 who suggested other drugs instead Andy.
Yep, pony and trap.
All drugs have positives and negatives... legal or not.
Ban doctors giving people tablets.

A great man once said 'comedy gold'. He wasn't referring to the Chuckle Brothers level of the sentence above.
Maybe a wee hauf to loosen you up now and then would work wonders, let some light in.
When I read some posts by A-H I am reminded of the remark of Churchill about Sir Stafford Cripps, the Labour post-war chancellor:

"There, but for the grace of God, goes God".
