It is sad - on that we obviously agree.
But as far as the outcome being 'inevitable' - I disagree that it is.
Yes the evidence points to the likelihood of a body being found, and previous cases have ended in a similar tragedy, but there is noting inevitgable here - there was always a chance that this poor girl would be found alive, and that hope remains until facts dictate otherwise, and that is why the news is indeed dreadful.
Expected yes, inevitable, no.

Zacs - // I’m sorry Andy but I have to disagree. Making this young lady’s death a subject of debate is disrespectful so I’ll bow out if that ok. I know....I’ve entered debate but only to challenge the unrealistic expectations that the outcome would be favourable.
You must do as you see fit, but I must point out that I am not making this young lady's death the subject of debate, I am making your presumption that her death was 'inevitable' the subject of debate.
There is nothing 'inevitable' about the death of a missing person, that is the point I am making, so I disagree with you about that - and further I am disappointed that you think I would debate about the tragedy itself, which I have not done.

jackdaw - // Detectives have detained 71-year-old Rosemary Dinch, her 49-year-old son Paul Elsey, and her 19-year-old nephew, Nathan Elsey - all of whom were known to Miss Pope. //
Experience of these types of crimes often reveal that people are detained for links to the perpetrators, rather than because they were directly involved in the crime itself.
One or more persons can end up charged with aiding and abetting, or perverting the course of justice because they assisted the accused after the crime was committed.

"Not sure why this is dreadful news. It was always going to end this way."
Yes t was almost certainly going to end this way - especially after her clothes were found. But it makes in none the less dreadful. Being virtually inevitable and being dreadful are not mutually exclusive.
All the more reason why perpetrators of such crimes should be subject to a "full life" sentence.

Yes t was almost certainly going to end this way ...//
I am pleased that you echo my point - the word 'almost' makes a world of difference, specifically the difference between a definite and a possible outcome.
