Are Our Care Systems Fit For Purpose.
i know this is one case, but how many more people get through the system without proper checks. This poor lady is now on the mend and at least her assailant got a suitable sentence.

Emmie....I saw that earlier this morning, and its ruddy atrocious. Avant Healthcare either knew about this horrible woman's previous record or it didn't. They say they didn't, and I don't believe them for one moment. If they have done the checks that they say they did, then these previous convictions would have become known. Agree Judge. Wasn't I reading somewhere that there are plans to put cameras in abattoirs to ensure proper care of animals. I suggest they should be compulsory in care homes instead. We have been made aware of the wicked behaviour of some care home staff, and I cannot see family or occupants not being in support of such a move.

Emmie...its plain that either the checks were not done properly, or not at all.
I am subject to these checks every 2 years. They only work properly if all the info is given to Disclosure Scotland, with no errors.

mikey, it's endemic in the proceeds, no one dare turn down a black person for fear of being labelled racist. The person themselves more often that not play the race card if they are turned down. Add to that the general left wing right on credentials of those doing the hiring in these situations and here we are.

I and others on here today, have explained what happened here. If the Company had had the proper checks done, then it would have become immediately apparent that this woman should not have been employed.
The company gave evidence that background checks has been done, when they hadn't. That is what caused this savage attack to happen.

The whistle blowing system is a huge problem along with managers and staff that want these abuse cases keep quiet. I have been sacked from my last 3 care homes for constantly reporting abuse.
An allegation of abuse against a staff member is a very expensive situation for a care home. It's cheaper to brush it under the table than to go through the suspension and investigation route. They sack me because I won't let it be brushed under the table, I go to the top and report the management if it is not dealt with effectively. Unfortunately they can just dispense with me as they have done without reason as I hadn't been with these employers for 2 years, so virtually no rights!!

ratter...you have that very good point before.
But if you had previous convictions for violence, is it likely that any company that you approached to work for, would give you a job ?
In my job, I have to have these checks done as well and I wouldn't be allowed to start work, if I had failed the check.

The other problem with the care system is it can attract undesirables that just can't get work elsewhere as anybody with a clean DBS Can get a job in care. Unfortunately due to the lack of respect this work has and the poor salary many people just can't afford to work in care, or don't want to. Good care staff are like hens teeth!
