Hey look! there's another 'ism' entering the Left's vocabulary, 'NATIVISM'.

I don't think America in 2017 is in the same place as Germany in 1933, but if everyone stopped paying attention then who knows how far we could go down the same road? What if, for example, Trump attempted to repeal the 22nd Amendment that limits him to two terms?
He won't be successful even if he tries but the trick to ensuring that the comparison is invalid is to be aware that it *might* be.

He did not compare Trump to Hitler.
He compared the situation. And he said we must beguarded against it. What seems like a functioning democracy can quickly be usurped by tyranical elements.
Obamaseems to be saying - History can help us if we see the same mistakes being repeated. He is right about that.

I don't think Trump has any intention of repealing the 22nd Amendment, ymb. It's purely hypothetical.
It's clear from looking at Trump's speeches, outbursts, tweets, and somewhat hypocritical use of executive orders that he can be more than a little frustrated by the checks and balances that apply to the President's powers. Maybe so were other presidents but they had the relatively good sense to keep their frustrations private.
It's something to look out for, is all -- not something I expect.

He is 100% correct. There are worrying similarities between Hitler's campaine to make Germany the greatest power on Earth and Trump's 'Make America Great Again' campaine.
I think 'Nativism' in this context refers to increasing the status of America as a nation rather than to Native Americans. It seems to be being used as an opposite to 'Colonialism' There ought be a better way to phase it .
