// In 1993, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter, on the grounds of diminished responsibility, after attacking former partner Yvonne Bennett. He was sent to a secure hospital indefinitely.....// He must have gone through a stringent assessment process before they let him out. Something along the lines of ....Do you promise not to kill anyone else?...

Question Author
two killings which resulted in manslaughter charges, now this, vile human being.
Incompetence and complacency plus a never ending stream of lawyers on the make.
He didn't get away with them, he was released and as you say - now this.

Dreadful.
Question Author
now he will have to be kept in hospital or prison, presumably for the rest of his days, if not then there is no justice.
Question Author
killing his wife by pushing her over a balcony
killing his girlfriend, where the case goes to a manslaughter charge due to his so called diminished responsibility.
the third was going to be not guilty plea, then he changed his plea to murder.
I would hardly call it a "spree". Dictionary says "a spell or sustained period of unrestrained activity of a particular kind".

That hardly applies to 3 killing in 36 years.

However the BBC web site says after the second killing
"He was sent to a secure hospital indefinitely after killing her while their baby daughter slept nearby."

I wonder what part of thew word "indefinitely" the authorities did not understand ?
Two previous manslaughter convictions yet he was free to kill again?
Something does not add up here.
Question Author
they have labelled him a serial killer. He should never have been released after the second killing.
Question Author
what doesn't add up?
Not quite sure how many women this chap has to kill before they stop letting him out again. Hopefully now he's severed his right arm and left hand he'll find it more difficult to attack anybody.
emmie, one manslaughter charge and he may have got say 10 years, but then a 2nd one? The second one should have been 'Life' yet still he got released to kill a 3rd time! That is what does not add up.
After attacking Ms Best, 51, at his Islington home on 15 December 2016, the garage worker threw himself in front of an express train.

Is it wrong that I'm chuffed to bits that he got chuffed to bits?
Two manslaughter convictions within 12 years!!
Yet he was let out again to commit a murder!!!.
At least he will get life this time and hopefully a 'full life tariff' meaning he can never be released.
I would like to see details of the court case for the second manslaughter conviction and why he avoided a 'life' sentence.
He survived but severed his right arm and left hand.

:o)
Maybe he shouldn't have been released from the psychiatric unit. It seems to be lack of communication between the mental health services and the police.
Question Author
lock him up and throw away the key this time.
Question Author
pixie
lack of communication seems to have been lacking all round,
Yes, as ever...

He must have gone through a stringent assessment process before they let him out. Something along the lines of ....Do you promise not to kill anyone else? .....Yes, and also I'm really sorry for killing the first two people.....Ok, off you go then.
Question Author
