Even by the (admittedly very low) standards of the tin-foil-hat-wearers of California this is bonkers ...

I love the concept that it hydrates you better - which is useful because the diarrhoea is going to dehydrate you something shocking ...

Discovered it at last have they?
completely radio!
Only in the USA...
Noooo...I don't think so.
I didnt know whether to laugh or cry. This is very worrying. On many levels!
Don't panic - they'll discover water filters next.
Do they get the water from the ditch at the bottom of the garden or the puddles after the rain?
Puddled.
I don’t think it is bonkers as it appears.
Everything is so sterile these days that we don't build up any immunity and everyone has an allegy or is floored by the slightest infection. Also, the stuff in tap water isn’t exactly appetising either.

Chlorine
Fluorine compounds
Trihalomethanes (THMs)
Salts of:
- arsenic
- radium
- aluminium
- copper
- lead
- mercury
- cadmium
- barium
Hormones
Nitrates
Pesticides

We need a few germs.

A fool and his money are soon parted it would seem.

But I have seen people coming out of supermarkets here in Swansea, with their trolleys stacked full of bottled water....madness.
Some UK tap water is disgusting to drink, so I would not blame anyone for buying bottled water to drink.
Having said that, the tap water where I live is stupendous*, yet the supermaket has a whole aisle of bottled water.

* When I was little they called it ‘Corporation Pop’.
Gromit....water here in South Wales is wonderful too, and yet people still waste money !
another fad from the loony tunes from US, can't say it would do much for me..
Emmie....if my memory serves me correctly, you live in the centre of London. If I lived there, I might be tempted to buy some water, if only to make drinks with.

I lived for nearly 2 years in the late 80's, in a hotel in Russell Square, and the water really wasn't very pleasant, but perhaps its changed now.
Maybe it’s a storekeeper Mickey. Buys it in Aldi’s and Lidl for 30p for 500ml and sells it over the counter at £1 to the Lycra and trainer brigade.
much to my shame i rarely drink tap water, and i wouldn't often buy bottled water. Only if i am out in the hot weather. But the tap water is perfectly acceptable,
I'm glad Emmie. I seem to remember it tasted like a lot of chlorine had been put in.
Errr.. I lived for several years in a house in Calderdale which only had untreated water piped from a spring. I never caught anything, it was nice water - unlike the hard, chlorine-tasting stuff we now have, which I can't bear to drink, so I now buy bottled. Have I missed something in the article that says don't drink spring water? Probably, it's lateish. :)
We do need more germs. A bit of dirt won't hurt, as my granny used to say. Not sure I'd go as far as those mentioned in the OP, though.
Our tap water here is perfectly ok, but I know loads of people who buy massive plastic-bottled water for even making tea.
As we say here in Yorkshire

Tha’ll eyt morener a bit o muck afore thee dees.
