age to get equal pay. If you do the same job how is it possible women often get paid less. Companies with 250 or more employees will have to publish their gender pay, not before time.

Lord knows, Emmie...... :-(
They need to negotiate with HR a better salary.
On a pro-rata basis women get paid more than men at Wimbledon. Men play more sets, draw bigger crowds, and higher TV viewing figures, and yet the prize money is the same - which hardly seems fair to me!

Personally I think this is a bad idea. Yes, in an ideal world, men and women doing the same job should be paid the same.

But consider this. I was the subject of a grievance a few years ago because I was paying a man more than a woman doing the same job and then subsequently promoted him without given the woman the opportunity to apply for the job.

Sounds terrible, doesn't it.

However, they were on the same salary at one point, but then she became pregnant and took 12 months mat leave. During her mat leave she became pregnant again, and the way the dates worked meant she came back to work for about 6 weeks, and then went on mat leave again - so to all intents and purposes she had a full two years off....and then gets the hump and brings a grievance against me because the guy who was working his nuts off, and pretty much covering her work, got rewarded for doing so.

Also, why should anybody (man or woman) who is doing the same job, but one is better at the same job, not be rewarded more?

This is a tremendously bad idea and will result in (a) disharmony and (b) inevitably employers having to pay more, even though those on less may not be worth as much as their co-worker.
niece went back to work after 12 months mat leave, fell pregnant and has decided to take 3 months leave this time round.
She was at the top but realises that having kiddies reflects on her income and career.

I could also bore you all rigid about pay differences between the same sex.
Due to age the under 25's get paid less even tho they may have more experience than the 25's plus who have only been in the company for a year.
What's wrong with slavery anyway? without it we wouldn't have Bessie Smith, Mahalia Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald and many, many more.
Here, on the female front (pardon the expression) what has Egalitarianism given us? Well, Angela Merkel, Teresa May and (almost) Hilary clinton.
Chaps! rise up and resist this nonsense before it is too late!
As so often, while the initiative to force employers to reveal the gender comparison in income/pay is a worthwhile effort as a simple start, it is a fudge. The true comparison would be in listing and comparing basic rates on a like for like standard and not a global average where all women are compared to all men. It tells us very little to know that 200 men (many on overtime and/or performance bonuses) in full time above-middle positions earn more in total when compared to the total earnings of 300 women in part-time and 100 in full-time positions. Not for the first time the UK goes the way of opacity and the result is a lot of steam and hot air expended over pointless posturing with no progress achieved except "hail the clever leaders" for the idea/policy and of course the indignation of "what a scandal, what is the government going to do ?".
In the case of the ladies playing darts they could hit the target a bit more often.

Just saying. :-)
