Funnily enough conferences often pay less than the going rate for bulk booking and rich and famous people pay next to nothing (if anything at all) for the free advertising and the 'me to' effect I mentioned above.

So it's even better for the rich and famous than us poor plebs whomhave to pay through the nose for the same thing.
Mikey, Theresa May is the Prime Minister, not a member of a second rate opposition.
Danny...so you are trying to stifle debate then !
What on earth are you on about?
You know full well danny. Why shouldn't the Labour Party be represented at this event ?
More to the point is why should they? Is any other political party represented? Anyway as I said in my first post nobody at Davos is going to take any notice of John McDonnell, his opinions carry no weight.
///The meeting brings together some 2,500 top business leaders, international political leaders, economists, celebrities and journalists for up to four days to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world.//

He seems to be a bit of an interloper. As a politician holding no sway whatsoever over the business of this country he can only tick ‘none of the above’.
I can't stand this bloke with a passion.

If god forbid he were ever to become chancellor he would cripple this country.

The man is an utter moron.

However....

I would imagine the hotel prices in Davos at the moment have been hiked due to demand, so if that's the price then that's the price and there's not a lot he can do about it.
He might be chancellor in the government of one of the world’s leading economies one day.
So regardless of what you think of him his attendance is not entirely pointless. Davos group in any case is not a summit for government leaders per se. If it was why would Cameron be there :-)
A report published by Oxfam ahead of the summit revealed that billionaires increased their wealth by $762bn last year, enough to end 'global extreme poverty seven times over' [Matthias Schrader/AP]

Would they bother being entrepreneurs though, seven OP, if all or most of their wealth was taken off them. Without these people you and I would probably be worse off, as many people's jobs result from entrepreneurs. It's not a zero sum game. I think you probably know that really, sevenOP
£700/night.........average for a top European hotel.
£125 for a massage........average.......basic procedure sans "extras."
Can't see the problem, just because he is Labour, why should he "slum it?"
Danny 08.38 But she is a member of a second rate Government, eh.
Gullible1
We beg to differ.:-)
Oops typo.
ichkeria, //He might be chancellor in the government of one of the world’s leading economies one day.//

And pigs might fly. David Cameron’s presence could be justified by the fact that he’s got rather more on his CV and is actually recognised on the world stage.
sevenOP, rather an interesting article by Rod Liddle here entitled "Oxfam take note: It’s capitalism not Marxism that lifts us out of poverty". For Jeremy & Co's adoring fans it's food for thought and well worth a read.

I think a more pertinent question might be "Why is Mr McDonnell there at all?"

In fact, even more pertinent than that, why is this annual beanfeast held at all?
No reason why Cameron shouldn’t be there and no reason why McDonnell shouldn’t either.
But what are they there for (other than the free victuals)?
