I agree we need a new leader but it could be worse; we might still be stuck with Cameron.
Not really baffling at all when you consider who the other contenders were.
That is very true, Ich. I am convinced that if Boris had stood he would have walked it.
The middle way is often the only way.
The NI peace process for example.
Indeed many peace processes. Arguably that is exactly what the Brexit negotiations both externally and internally are.
Boris of course did stand but was shafted by Gove who in the process shafted himself.
I don’t think, having gone into this, that iris had the self belief for it despite plainly having the ambition
Iris??
Who the hell is Iris(!)
/// I do still find it baffling how Theresa managed to be PM. ///

Proof that diversity doesn't always work.

Lets have someone who knows how to do the job, even if it happens to be a senior male.
In fairness to TM she has a very, very difficult job.
Albeit it one she always wanted but surely not in those circumstances. As a pro-Remain politician saddled with Brexit after a referendum called by her predecessor. Not much wonder he didn't get a knighthood :-)

I think Cameron turned it down didnt he ?

I agree it would be pointless or damaging to have a change of PM half way thro negotiations - that really would screw things up
The odd thing is, I can think of several good candidates to lead Labour (and not just because they'd be better than the current one: by that token there'd be over one hundred on my list).
But I am pushed to think of any plausible successor to TM in the short term who wouldn't cause a civil war breaking out over B***it.

Rees Mog is the current bookie's favourite;

Which puts him above Bojo, which is right, but the gap is insufficient.

No matter who they get, I hope they come up with someone that has some guts and the Euro Pratts to do one.
A "middle way" often "falls between two stools" and ends up the worse possible option. Such it would be for Brexit.

May needs to "wake up and smell the coffee". She has a job to do, not one to avoid. Or leave the way clear for Rees-Mogg to get something done.
lets not change leader now, this is more definitely not the time.
Beginning to look like there's no better time. There's a window of opportunity before someone capitulates to the EU stated position. It's much more difficult to renegotiate afterwards.
If Maty was replaced by someone like Rees-Mogg there is a very real chance the negotiations would break down altogether.
And in any case, it would hardly just be a matter of parachuting in someone else. It would take weeks to choose a new leader, time that we can't afford to waste. A leadership contest now would be very bloody, and I think a general election would not be long in the offing afterwards. And that would be brown troser time for the Tories I fancy, because they'd do into an election in disarray.
In short, I cannot see there being a change of leader for the forseeable future.
Emmie,20.02, yes you are so right , now is not a good time to change the leader, now is the time to change the Government.
JACKDAW 14.38 " We need a new leader" "WE" ????????.
